At a time when his siblings were living a normal life within the walls of their home, the three-year-old Simeon was fighting a daily brutal battle against hunger and neglect. The details of life within the family bore no resemblance to childhood; instead, it turned into a routine series of systematic torture, sleeping on cold floors, and continuous deprivation of the most basic rights of a living being to survive.
When the little boy's heart stopped beating after a direct blow from his father, the medical reports carried a shocking number that encapsulated the dimensions of the tragedy: the child's weight at the time of his death did not exceed 6.8 kilograms, in a body ravaged by severe emaciation that reflected the extent of the suffering he endured away from the eyes of the world. Later, father Alexander Taratuta attempted to downplay the severity of his actions in front of the court by claiming "discipline," while mother Anastasia received a 25-year prison sentence for her involvement in the crime.
However, justice in Belarus (the only European country that insists on applying the death penalty) did not delay in bringing the curtain down on this case, as the death sentence was carried out by firing squad against the 49-year-old father without prior announcement, according to the legal context followed, while the law exempted the mother from the same fate due to the exclusion of women from this punishment, closing the doors on one of the most brutal and dark stories of domestic violence.
