توفيت امرأة بمرض الطاعون في منطقة إيركوتسك النائية بسيبيريا؛ وفق ما أفاد مسؤول إقليمي، وسط تقارير إعلامية روسية تشير إلى وضع عشرات الأشخاص قيد الحجر الصحي.
وذكرت وسائل إعلام محلية أن الضحية هي داريا شيبيلوفا، فنية مختبر تبلغ 28 عامًا، وكانت تعمل في معهد إيركوتسك لمكافحة الطاعون، مرجحةً إصابتها بالطاعون الرئوي نتيجة انكسار أنبوب اختبار أثناء عملها.
وأشار موقع (بيبول أوف بايكال) إلى أن ما يصل إلى 200 شخص ممن يُحتمل أنهم خالطوها قد وُضعوا قيد الحجر الصحي، دون صدور أي بيان فوري من وزارة الصحة الروسية. وكان حاكم منطقة بورياتيا أليكسي تسيدينوف، قد ذكر في وقت سابق أن امرأة في المنطقة المجاورة توفيت جراء الإصابة بالطاعون.
ووفق منظمة الصحة العالمية، يُعد الطاعون الرئوي شديد العدوى وقد يكون قاتلًا إذا لم يُعالج مبكرًا.
A woman has died from the plague in the remote Irkutsk region of Siberia, according to a regional official, amid Russian media reports indicating that dozens of people are under quarantine.
Local media reported that the victim is Daria Shibelova, a 28-year-old laboratory technician who worked at the Irkutsk Institute of Plague Control, suggesting that she contracted pneumonic plague due to a broken test tube while working.
The website (People of Baikal) noted that up to 200 people who may have come into contact with her have been placed under quarantine, with no immediate statement from the Russian Ministry of Health. Earlier, the Governor of the Buryatia region, Alexei Tsidenov, mentioned that a woman in the neighboring area had died from plague infection.
According to the World Health Organization, pneumonic plague is highly contagious and can be fatal if not treated early.
