The Moroccan artist Al-Bashir Abdo, father of Saad Lamjarred, commented on the judicial ruling issued against his son in France, affirming the family's stance against the conviction, following a sentence of 10 years in prison related to the French woman Laura Priol.
The Court of Appeal in Créteil ruled on Saturday to imprison Saad Lamjarred for 10 years, based on a case dating back to 2016, and ordered his immediate incarceration upon the announcement of the verdict.
Al-Bashir Abdo posted a picture of himself in front of the court and spoke about the difficult circumstances the family is going through, asserting that his son is "wronged," and described the ruling as "unjust," noting that the defense team presented what they considered evidence supporting the Moroccan artist's position.
He also mentioned that his wife, the artist Nouzha Rkaraki, along with Saad Lamjarred's wife and mother, are experiencing difficult psychological conditions since the ruling was issued.
The case dates back to October 2016, when Laura Priol accused the Moroccan artist of assaulting her in a hotel room in Paris, allegations that Lamjarred has denied since the beginning of the case.
In 2023, he was convicted by the Paris Court of Assizes and sentenced to 6 years in prison, before appealing the ruling, leading to a retrial before the Court of Appeal in Créteil, which began hearing the case on September 17 and concluded with an increased sentence of 10 years.
Following the ruling, the defense team announced its intention to appeal to the French Court of Cassation, while Lamjarred continues to deny the accusations against him.
This case comes amid another legal file involving the Moroccan artist in France, as he was sentenced in May 2026 to 5 years in prison in a separate case related to incidents dating back to 2018 in southern France, and the ruling is still subject to an independent appeal process.
The latest ruling comes at a time when Saad Lamjarred's family is going through special circumstances, coinciding with Moroccan media reports about his wife expecting twins and the approaching due date.
