After an incident resembling a scene from a horror movie that terrified the residents of a neighborhood in the city of Zarqa, the appellate court in Jordan reopened the case file of an unusual home invasion, linked to a scenario filled with weapons and surprises.
The details of the incident date back to a night when a man broke down the door of a tranquil family's home, invading the place while wearing a military uniform with the rank of colonel, and surrounded by sharp weapons including a sword, a spear, a knife, and a scalpel, forcing the homeowners to leave immediately amidst the shock that stunned everyone.
Police forces quickly moved to the site, surrounding the area, before the intruder responded to the security personnel's calls and opened the door, surrendering without resistance. Investigations later revealed a heavy indictment list that included violation of the sanctity of homes, impersonating a public servant, armed threats, and disturbing public peace.
However, the case witnessed a notable judicial twist, as the magistrate court initially declared him "not criminally responsible" based on evaluation reports resulting from a psychotic disorder. However, the public prosecution appealed the decision, specifying a crucial point indicating that mental safety and awareness are the norm, and that the reports did not confirm a loss of consciousness at the time of committing the crime.
The Zarqa Criminal Court, in its appellate capacity, decided to annul the previous ruling and return the case file for investigation and trial anew, resolving the legal debate regarding the psychological impact and awareness at the time of the crime.
