In a dramatic development that has captivated the Moroccan political and parliamentary scene, the issue of "extortion and elections" has resurfaced, filled with excitement, after the name of Mohamed Chouki, a prominent leader in the National Rally of Independents party, became the center of a media and judicial earthquake following details that shocked the Moroccan public.
The case, which had previously been temporarily archived in August 2025 due to insufficient evidence, involved terrifying financial leaps revealed by the defense of former parliamentarian Rashid Al-Fayek, where the narrative began with 100 million centimes, then jumped to 800 million, before culminating in the shocking figure: 7 billion centimes, or 70 million Moroccan dirhams, which were allegedly packed inside the trunk of his car.
The most dramatic spark was linked to a gray "Volvo" car, where the defense claimed that their client saw bundles of 200 dirham banknotes inside its trunk, attributing ownership of the vehicle to Chouki, announcing the submission of photos and recordings that they demand be subjected to judicial examination, prompting the public prosecutor in Morocco to announce the continuation of investigations and the arrangement of legal consequences based on the new information.
In contrast, Mohamed Chouki broke his cautious silence, announcing a firm recourse to the judiciary against anyone who engages with these allegations, which he described as "false," turning the story into two parallel judicial paths as the election dates approach.
But behind these shocking numbers lies an older story: how did a complaint that ended up being archived resurface? What is the tale of the 100 million, the 800 million, and the 7 billion? And most importantly... where does the narrative of Al-Fayek's defense end, and where do the facts that have been legally established begin?
