It was just an ordinary conversation between the Moroccan young man Youssef (29 years old) and one of the policewomen on patrol in the French city of Carcassonne, before the moment suddenly turned into a tragic incident that cost him his life.
The situation was captured in a video showing Youssef speaking calmly without any exchange of aggression, before he was unexpectedly charged from behind by another police officer, who forcefully pushed him to the ground, causing his head to hit the pavement directly, leaving him in the hospital for days before he passed away.
The incident sparked a wave of massive legal actions, as the "French-Moroccan Human Rights Association" intervened in the case, represented by its lawyer to file an official complaint with the public prosecutor as a civil party, alongside sending a direct message to the French Minister of the Interior demanding an independent and transparent investigation.
The human rights complaint was based on the texts of French internal security law, which obligate law enforcement officers to use force only when absolutely necessary and in proportion to the level of threat, while emphasizing the need to protect the lives and dignity of detainees, stressing that official duty does not grant anyone immunity above the law, and that the victim's nationality does not diminish his right to justice and accountability.
