قضى شاب وزوجته الحامل في حادث مأساوي بمدينة البندقية الإيطالية، بعد اصطدام قارب الصيد الصغير الذي كانا يستقلانه بـ«تاكسي مائي»، بعد ثلاثة أشهر فقط على زواجهما.
وقع الحادث في الساعات الأولى من صباح السبت الماضي، بالقرب من جزيرة تيسيرا، وأدى الاصطدام العنيف إلى سقوط الزوجين في مياه البحيرة، فيما غرق قاربهما بالكامل خلال وقت قصير.
وبينت صحيفة «نيويورك بوست» أن فرق الإنقاذ تمكنت في البداية من انتشال الزوج، شون ميكيلي (25 عاماً)، والذي كان يعمل صياداً محلياً، ونقله إلى المستشفى في حالة حرجة، بعدما تعرض لإصابات بالغة، بينها صدمات شديدة في الرأس والوجه.
ورغم خضوعه لجراحة عاجلة ونقله إلى وحدة العناية المركزة، فارق ميكيلي الحياة يوم الأحد 13 سبتمبر متأثراً بجراحه.
في المقابل، واصلت فرق الإنقاذ عمليات البحث عن زوجته غابرييلا كويرينو (26 عاماً)، وهي برازيلية انتقلت إلى إيطاليا قبل نحو عامين وكانت حاملاً بطفلهما الأول.
وشاركت في عمليات البحث فرق من الغواصين، إلى جانب مروحيات ودراجات مائية، إلا أن ارتفاع مستوى المد واضطراب الرؤية داخل المياه صعّبا العثور عليها. وبعد أيام من عمليات التمشيط، رصد أحد المواطنين جثمانها طافياً على سطح المياه صباح الثلاثاء 15 سبتمبر.
وأعرب المجلس الإقليمي لمنطقة «فينيتو» عن حزنه العميق إزاء الحادث، مؤكداً أن انتشال جثمان كويرينو أنهى أياماً من عمليات البحث المتواصلة.
وقالت عائلة ميكيلي إن الزوجين، اللذين تزوجا في 8 يونيو الماضي، كانا يحرصان على قضاء معظم أوقاتهما معاً، مشيرة إلى أنهما خرجا في ذلك الصباح لجمع طُعم الصيد قبل أن تنتهي رحلتهما بحادث مأساوي أودى بحياتهما.
A young man and his pregnant wife died in a tragic accident in the Italian city of Venice, after their small fishing boat collided with a "water taxi," just three months after their marriage.
The accident occurred in the early hours of last Saturday morning, near the island of Tessera, and the violent collision caused the couple to fall into the lake's waters, while their boat sank completely in a short time.
The "New York Post" reported that rescue teams were initially able to retrieve the husband, Sean Michele (25 years old), who worked as a local fisherman, and transported him to the hospital in critical condition, after suffering severe injuries, including significant trauma to the head and face.
Despite undergoing emergency surgery and being moved to the intensive care unit, Michele passed away on Sunday, September 13, due to his injuries.
Meanwhile, rescue teams continued the search for his wife, Gabriela Quirino (26 years old), a Brazilian who moved to Italy about two years ago and was pregnant with their first child.
The search efforts included teams of divers, as well as helicopters and jet skis, but the rising tide and poor visibility in the water made it difficult to locate her. After days of searching, a citizen spotted her body floating on the water's surface on the morning of Tuesday, September 15.
The regional council of the "Veneto" area expressed its deep sorrow over the incident, confirming that the recovery of Quirino's body ended days of continuous search operations.
Michele's family stated that the couple, who married on June 8, had been keen to spend most of their time together, noting that they had gone out that morning to gather fishing bait before their journey ended in a tragic accident that claimed their lives.
