The Health Department of Anbar Province in Iraq has settled the controversy that arose on social media regarding reports about the seizure of a pig farming facility aimed at trading in its meat, coinciding with an incident involving a meat seller accused of selling minced pork as regular minced meat.
The department denied, in an official statement, the accuracy of what has been circulated regarding its teams seizing a pig farming facility and selling its meat within the province, confirming that this information is completely unfounded.
It clarified that the circulated posts are not based on any incident or action issued by it, warning that the dissemination of such misleading information could lead to public confusion and harm the work of health institutions.
The department called on media outlets and citizens to exercise caution when reporting news, to rely on official sources for information, and to refrain from republishing content from untrustworthy pages.
This denial came after a video clip circulated on several platforms, accompanied by claims that the Ministry of Health had seized a pig farming facility. According to official clarifications, the video is "fabricated" and has no connection to Iraq, and the pigs shown in it are located in another country, while the scenes of meat processing belong to one of the major factories specializing in beef processing.
This clarification follows days after authorities in Najaf Province announced the seizure of a meat shop owner, following accusations of selling pork to his customers as minced meat without their knowledge, an incident that sparked widespread reactions in Iraq.
Local reports indicated that the accused was hunting wild pigs in the marshes of Al-Hurriya district in Al-Kufa, then grinding their meat and selling it, before being arrested and referred to the judiciary.
The criminal court issued a preliminary ruling sentencing him to 10 years in prison, while the ruling is still not final, pending the completion of legal procedures and litigation according to the provisions of the Iraqi Penal Code.
