A wild elephant surprised the residents of Assam, India, when it entered a football field, approached the ball, and kicked it with its trunk, in a scene that amazed the children and those present.
A circulating video showed the elephant wandering inside the field, then interacting with the ball while being watched by several children, as eyewitnesses documented the incident, and the footage later spread across social media platforms, achieving wide engagement.
Assam is one of the prominent regions where wild Asian elephants are found, and it frequently witnesses interactions between them and the local population, especially as they approach villages and fields in search of food and water.
These movements can lead to elephants entering populated areas, necessitating the intervention of forest teams to drive them away and return them to their natural habitats.
In another incident that occurred in the state last week, forest teams rescued a wild elephant that was found trapped with a tractor tire around its neck, after a process that lasted for hours in the Golaghat district.
These incidents highlight the increasing friction between wild elephants and human settlements in Assam, due to the expansion of animal movements outside their natural habitats.
