An Italian traveler arriving from Miami had a shocking surprise at Turin Airport when customs officers discovered something completely unexpected inside his suitcase.
The violation was not related to weapons or drugs, but rather a fully dried crocodile head wrapped in simple packaging, in a scene that astonished customs officials and opened the door to a potential case.
According to the Italian "Guardia di Finanza" agency, the head belongs to a species of crocodiles that are endangered and internationally protected under the CITES agreement, which regulates the trade in endangered species. Transporting any part of these animals across borders without the necessary permits is a serious violation that could expose the owner to legal prosecution and possibly imprisonment.
Initial investigations indicate that the traveler did not provide any documents justifying his possession of this animal part, prompting authorities to seize the items and open a criminal case that may extend across several countries, given the flight path that began in Miami, passing through Istanbul, and arriving in Turin.
A journey that seemed ordinary on the surface ended with a suitcase carrying the head of a protected animal, turning it into an international case concerning the illegal wildlife trade.
