In decisive decisions, the Supreme Council for Media Regulation in Egypt has taken a series of measures regarding the media coverage related to the private life of Captain Hossam Hassan, the head coach of the Egyptian national team, following what the council deemed a violation of the professional and ethical standards governing media work.
Prohibition of Hossam Hassan's Wife's Appearance
The council has mandated all media outlets, newspapers, websites, and social media platforms subject to the provisions of the Press and Media Regulation Law No. 180 of 2018, to prohibit the appearance of Dan Adam, the wife of Captain Hossam Hassan, on their screens or platforms, for an indefinite period.
The decision also included a ban on publishing or making any content related to this issue available through the media and press outlets and platforms covered by the law.
Summoning 3 Channels
The council decided to summon the legal representatives of the channels "Al-Nahar," "Al-Shams," and "Modern M.T.I." to hearings, to clarify the circumstances surrounding the media coverage that addressed details of the private, personal, and family life of the head coach of the Egyptian national team.
The council clarified that this coverage included violations of the codes and media standards issued by it, which necessitated taking the necessary measures to verify the circumstances of what occurred.
Addressing the Football Association
In a third measure, the Supreme Council for Media Regulation decided to address the Egyptian Football Association, as the competent authority within the sports system, to carry out its duties and take appropriate actions regarding Captain Hossam Hassan and the repercussions of the recent crisis.
The council affirmed that its decisions come within the framework of applying the professional and ethical standards governing media work, and not with the aim of restricting press and media freedom.
It emphasized that respecting private life and public morals is one of the pillars of responsible media, which seeks to achieve a balance between the public's right to know and individuals' right to privacy, while adhering to the codes and professional and ethical standards issued by the Supreme Council for Media Regulation.
