بدأت المشاهد حين لمح المحامي السابق ماثيو إكستون (43 عاماً) زوجته السابقة كادا مالون وهي تجلس برفقة والديها. ولم يتردد الرجل كثيراً، إذ غادر المكان ليعود ممتلئاً بالغل وحاملاً سلاحاً نارياً، متجهاً مباشرة نحو طاولتهم في نية مبيتة لتنفيذ ما وصفته النيابة العامة بـ«الإعدام العلني».
وفي لحظة فارقة، وضع إكستون فوهة المسدس على بعد سنتيمترات قليلة من رأس زوجته السابقة وسحب الزناد بلا تردد. إلا أن القدر تدخل عبر تفصيل تقني غير متوقع، إذ حال «صمام الأمان» دون خروج الرصاصة القاتلة، رغم وجود طلقة مذخرة في بيت النار وسبع طلقات أخرى بالخزنة.
ولم تكد تمر ثوانٍ حتى تحرك أحد نادلي المطعم بشجاعة خاطفة، مانحاً الحضور فرصة الانقضاض على الجاني وإسقاطه أرضاً وتجريده من السلاح قبل إتمام نواياه الإجرامية.
ولم تقف الدراما عند هذا الحد، إذ شهدت قاعة المحكمة أثناء المرافعة الختامية حالة من الجنون بعدما أُخرج المتهم بالقوة إثر نوبة صراخ هستيرية، أخذ خلالها يردد كلمات أغنية تهديدية وجّهها سابقاً لزوجته، صانعاً بيده إشارة مسدس نحو نائبة المدعي العام. وبذلك تنتظر الأوساط القضائية صدور الحكم النهائي بسجنه في 21 سبتمبر 2026.
