تحوّلت رحلة بحرية قبالة سواحل الفلبين إلى مأساة دامية، بعدما اندلع حريق مفاجئ على متن عبّارة كانت تبحر قرب أحد المواقع السياحية في مقاطعة بالاوان، ما أسفر عن سقوط 5 قتلى على الأقل، فيما لا يزال 87 شخصًا في عداد المفقودين، وسط استمرار عمليات البحث والإنقاذ.
وأعلن خفر السواحل الفلبيني، الخميس، انتشال 5 جثث من موقع الحادث ونقلها إلى اليابسة، فيما تتواصل جهود الإنقاذ للعثور على المفقودين.
واندلع الحريق مساء الأربعاء على متن العبّارة «إم/في جون أستر»، على بُعد نحو 2.2 كيلومتر من الساحل، وفقًا لخفر السواحل.
وقالت قائدة خفر السواحل، نويمي كايابياب، في تصريحات لإذاعة محلية صباح الخميس، إن فرق الإنقاذ تمكنت حتى الآن من إنقاذ 42 شخصًا، بينهم 38 راكبًا و4 من أفراد الطاقم، مشيرة إلى أن 87 شخصًا لا يزالون مفقودين.
وبحسب قائمة الركاب، كان على متن العبّارة 134 شخصًا بين ركاب وأفراد طاقم، فيما تستمر عمليات البحث وسط ظروف صعبة لكشف ملابسات الحريق وتحديد مصير المفقودين.
ووفق بيانات موقع «مارين ترافيك» المتخصص في تتبع حركة السفن، كانت العبّارة قد انطلقت من العاصمة الفلبينية مانيلا قبل وقوع الحادث.
A cruise trip off the coast of the Philippines turned into a bloody tragedy after a sudden fire broke out on a ferry sailing near a tourist site in Palawan province, resulting in at least 5 fatalities, while 87 people are still missing, as search and rescue operations continue.
The Philippine Coast Guard announced on Thursday that 5 bodies had been recovered from the accident site and transported to shore, while rescue efforts continue to locate the missing.
The fire broke out on Wednesday evening aboard the ferry "M/V John Aster," approximately 2.2 kilometers from the coast, according to the Coast Guard.
Coast Guard Chief Noemi Kayabiab stated in remarks to a local radio station on Thursday morning that rescue teams have so far managed to save 42 people, including 38 passengers and 4 crew members, noting that 87 people are still missing.
According to the passenger list, there were 134 people on board the ferry, including passengers and crew members, while search operations continue under difficult conditions to uncover the circumstances of the fire and determine the fate of the missing.
According to data from the ship tracking website "Marine Traffic," the ferry had departed from the Philippine capital Manila before the incident occurred.
