Cameras are no longer just present in phones, cars, and surveillance devices; they have started to find their way into the heart of the home, specifically into kitchen appliances, in a remarkable development revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show held in the German capital, Berlin.
One of the most notable innovations that caught attention is a smart oven equipped with artificial intelligence technologies and an internal camera capable of recognizing foods while they are inside the oven.
The camera's function is not limited to identifying well-known dishes like pizza; the oven can also handle a variety of home recipes and dishes. Users can save a specific dish in a favorites list, allowing the device to retain the cooking settings associated with it, such as temperature, program, and appropriate duration. Thus, in future instances, the user can place the dish inside the oven, select the saved recipe, and then let the device automatically handle the cooking process according to the previous settings.
But the surprise doesn't stop at ovens; cameras are also starting to enter dishwashers. A smart dishwasher equipped with a camera has been revealed, which captures images of the contents inside the dishwasher when its door is closed. The dishwasher uses these images to analyze the plates, pots, and cups inside it, and then adjusts the cleaning program according to the contents. This includes determining the amount of cleaning materials required, adjusting the drying process, and selecting the appropriate washing cycle, which helps in dealing with different types of utensils, including plastic containers that may require different drying settings. The system also allows users to customize the dishwasher's operation via an app, such as setting a specific fill level to start the operation, whether it reaches 60%, 80%, or 90%, along with setting time restrictions to prevent it from running before a certain time. Even more exciting is that the system can be linked to home solar energy, so the dishwasher operates when the energy produced by the solar panels is available.
With an oven that (sees) what’s inside and remembers your recipes, and a dishwasher that (captures) its contents before starting its work, it seems that the kitchen of the future is no longer just executing commands; it has become capable of seeing, analyzing, and making some decisions on its own.
