In a decisive security blow to the schemes of embezzling public funds and illegal profiteering, the General Department of Criminal Investigations at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior succeeded in dismantling an organized criminal network, arresting 41 suspects and seizing 38 vehicles involved in a large-scale theft of diesel intended for government entities and private companies.
The dark details of the scheme were revealed following thorough investigations that showed several drivers exploiting the trucks and vehicles assigned to them by virtue of their jobs to secretly siphon off quantities of diesel without the knowledge of the official authorities or their employers, directing it to a hideout in the "Amghara" area to be collected in large tanks.
The investigations also revealed the involvement of a Kuwaiti citizen who provided the tanks designated for fuel extraction and collection for a monthly fee of 1,600 dinars under a "contractual" system, fully aware of their management in an illegal activity. The illicit trade involved purchasing the stolen thousand liters for 90 dinars, which were then collected and sold to another intermediary for 115 dinars, before being delivered to local projects at a price of 130 dinars per 1,000 liters, including transportation commissions.
After completing the surveillance and raids, the main suspects were caught red-handed while unloading the stolen fuel, in addition to apprehending the buyers and suspected traders. When confronted, each of the detained individuals admitted their role in the theft scheme, leading to the decision to refer all of them and the seized items to the relevant authorities for legal action against them.
