The trustworthy individuals in the science of men and chains of narration are known for their integrity, precision, continuous chain of narration, and contemporaneity. All these qualities and others are embodied in the narrator from Ghamid and Zahran, Saeed bin Othman Al-Ghamdi, an educator who studied in traditional schools, then in formal education, practiced the teaching profession, and served as an imam and preacher for decades, before being appointed as the Secretary-General of the Chamber of Commerce in the Al-Baha region and the editor-in-chief of the Chamber's magazine, where I began my writing journey over 40 years ago.
I met "Abu Ahmed" in the councils of tribal chiefs and fortune-tellers, as a promoter of clear speech, speaking in a captivating narrative style, with a voice filled with composure and emotion to the point of tears when recounting a human story. He is one who excels at starting his speech by mentioning God and sending blessings and peace upon His Messenger, then he reviews the transformations of social life in rural environments, from a state of hardship, poverty, and fear, to comfort, sufficiency, and security, thanks to God, and then to the state for what it has provided its citizens by offering government services and opening schools, roads, and services in every city.
One of "Ibn Othman's" methods is his reliance on the purposes and goals of each story or poem he narrates. Discussing the history, events, and biographies of great figures is not for filling a void or for fleeting entertainment, but to root values, enhance noble morals, elevate the status of truth, forgiveness, and patience, and affirm the lofty position of justice. He is the salt of the gathering he is in, and he often recounts the hardships of life and the struggles of living, citing his own example so that others do not feel it.
Perhaps my generation and the generations before me owe him a debt of gratitude, as he is the reason they preserved narratives and poems that instill in souls the meanings of elevating speech and positions, to resolve issues and quell strife.
And perhaps some institutions have overlooked honoring this esteemed figure for his knowledge and status, yet he holds a special place in the hearts of his students and admirers, feeling that he receives the greatest honor through sharing his experience, recalling his narratives, and praying for his health, well-being, and long life.
