وقعت اللحظة الصادمة عندما زلت قدم الطفل فوق لوح خشب متهالك يغطي فتحة البئر الضيقة، ليسقط في ظلام دامس بعمق يصل إلى 80 متراً. وتتضاعف تعقيدات عملية الإنقاذ كونه محتجزاً تحت ركام أتربة انهارت فوقه على عمق 30 متراً في بئر بقطر لا يتجاوز 40 سنتيمتراً ودون أنابيب حماية.
أمام هذا الوضع الخطر، استنفرت فرق الحماية المدنية بدعم من فرق التدخل في الأماكن الوعرة، حيث تسابق الآليات الثقيلة الزمن في حفر بئر موازٍ لحماية الجسد الضئيل من أخطار انهيار التربة، فيما تقاطر مئات المواطنين الجزائريين من المناطق المجاورة للمساعدة ومواساة عائلة الطفل.
