تجاوز عدد المصابين بفايروس إيبولا في جمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية 5000 حالة، فيما يواجه البلد أكبر تفشٍّ للفايروس في تاريخه، وفق أحدث بيانات المراكز الأفريقية لمكافحة الأمراض والوقاية منها.
وأفادت البيانات بتسجيل 5021 إصابة مؤكدة، بينها 2378 وفاة، منذ الإعلان في مايو الماضي عن التفشي الـ17 للفايروس في البلاد، الذي طال مناطق في شمال وشرق الكونغو الديمقراطية، حيث تعاني من ضعف البنية الصحية وانتشار الجماعات المسلحة.
وحذرت منظمة الصحة العالمية من استمرار ارتفاع خطر انتشار الوباء محلياً ودولياً، فيما تواجه جهود احتواء التفشي صعوبات، بينها رفض بعض السكان الخضوع للفحوصات.
وكان تفشٍّ بين 2018 و2020 قد أودى بحياة 2299 شخصاً من أصل 3381 إصابة مؤكدة، وفق منظمة الصحة العالمية.
The number of Ebola virus infections in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has surpassed 5,000 cases, as the country faces the largest outbreak of the virus in its history, according to the latest data from the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The data reported 5,021 confirmed cases, including 2,378 deaths, since the announcement in May of the 17th outbreak of the virus in the country, which has affected areas in the north and east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where there is weak health infrastructure and the presence of armed groups.
The World Health Organization warned of the continued rising risk of the epidemic spreading both locally and internationally, as efforts to contain the outbreak face challenges, including some residents' refusal to undergo testing.
