في حادثة صادمة داخل أحد مخيمات الصيد بولاية فلوريدا، تعرّض طفل يبلغ من العمر 11 عامًا لهجوم مباغت من تمساح أثناء رحلة صيد برفقة والده، ما أدى إلى فقدانه يده اليمنى رغم محاولات طبية مكثفة لإنقاذها.
ووفقًا للجنة فلوريدا لحماية الأسماك والحياة البرية (FWC)، وقع الحادث في مخيم نيلسون للصيد قرب مدينة أوماتيلا في مقاطعة ماريون، بعد بلاغ يفيد بتعرض طفل لعضة تمساح أثناء صيده من ضفة المياه. وتم نقل الطفل، الذي عرّفته أسرته باسم برودي تيري، إلى المستشفى حيث خضع لعدة عمليات جراحية انتهت ببتر يده من منطقة الرسغ.
وتشير التقارير المحلية إلى أن برودي كان يعيد سمكة اصطادها إلى الماء عندما باغته التمساح. وروى قريب للعائلة، أندرو راينز، أن والد الطفل قفز إلى الماء محاولًا تخليصه من قبضة الحيوان، وتمكن بالفعل من إبعاده، إلا أن الإصابة كانت بالغة.
وأوضحت لجنة FWC أن أحد ضباطها تمكن من تحرير التمساح الذي بلغ طوله نحو 8 أقدام و7 بوصات، مؤكدة أن الحادث يعيد التذكير بضرورة الالتزام بإرشادات السلامة، وعدم الاقتراب من التماسيح أو إطعامها، والسباحة فقط في الأماكن المخصصة وخلال ساعات النهار. كما شددت على أن الإصابات الخطيرة الناتجة عن هجمات التماسيح تبقى نادرة رغم انتشارها في بعض مناطق فلوريدا.
ويواصل الطفل برودي مرحلة التعافي في منزله بعد مغادرته المستشفى، وسط دعم واسع من أسرته والمجتمع المحلي.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), the incident occurred at the Nelson Hunting Camp near the city of Omatilla in Marion County, following a report of a child being bitten by an alligator while fishing from the bank. The boy, identified by his family as Brody Terry, was taken to the hospital where he underwent several surgeries that ended with the amputation of his hand at the wrist.
Local reports indicate that Brody was returning a fish he had caught to the water when he was surprised by the alligator. A family relative, Andrew Raines, narrated that the boy's father jumped into the water trying to free him from the animal's grip and was able to push it away, but the injury was severe.
The FWC stated that one of its officers managed to capture the alligator, which measured about 8 feet and 7 inches long, emphasizing that the incident serves as a reminder of the need to adhere to safety guidelines, avoid approaching or feeding alligators, and swim only in designated areas during daylight hours. They also stressed that serious injuries from alligator attacks remain rare despite their occurrence in some areas of Florida.
Brody continues his recovery at home after leaving the hospital, with widespread support from his family and the local community.
