The Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi has taken his first official legal action following a decision to refer him to a criminal court to address accusations in a rape case.

The Versailles Court of Appeal upheld, on June 19, the decision of the investigating judge to refer the 27-year-old Paris Saint-Germain player to the criminal court, in connection with accusations of raping a woman in 2023. Since the initiation of legal proceedings, Hakimi has continued to deny the charges against him, asserting his innocence. The captain of the Moroccan national team is currently with his country’s team participating in the World Cup in the United States, while the dates for the trial sessions have not yet been determined.

For her part, Hakimi's lawyer, Fanny Collin, announced that her client will file an appeal before the highest court in France, in a move that represents the beginning of a new legal path that may extend for a long time and attract wide attention.
