Continental France has experienced 52 days of heatwaves since mid-June, a record surpassing the 33 days recorded in 2022, according to an analysis by the French news agency "AFP" based on data from the French meteorological agency "Météo France".
The country recorded three consecutive heatwaves this summer, lasting 14 days in June, 16 days in July, and 22 days from the end of July until August 18.
2026 is considered the year most affected by heatwaves in France since data recording began in 1947, with June 24 and 25 witnessing the highest average daily temperatures ever recorded, surpassing the record set in 2003.
The heatwaves coincided with drought and extensive wildfires in parts of Europe, a phenomenon exacerbated by climate change.
