In aviation, digital codes are used to identify the aircraft and send specific signals to air traffic controllers, but they are not "secret codes" that unlock aircraft doors or grant access to the cockpit. In the surveillance system, the transponder on board the aircraft sends a code assigned by the air traffic controller, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) states that the system allows for 4,096 unique codes, each consisting of four digits.
Emergency signals.. 3 codes that reveal danger
Among the known codes are 7500, which indicates unlawful interference with the aircraft, 7600 for loss of radio communication, and 7700 for declaring a general emergency. These emergency signals help controllers recognize the situation and coordinate the response, and they are not passwords or instructions that allow control of the aircraft. U.S. aviation procedures confirm that the use of 7500 is verified through communication with the pilot, while 7700 is used to display the emergency status on monitoring devices.
Protecting the cockpit.. Multiple security measures
As for the actual protection of the aircraft, it relies on layers of measures, including controlling access to restricted areas at airports, screening passengers and luggage, and implementing written security programs by operators. The International Civil Aviation Organization includes these measures within international aviation security standards, while some detailed security guidelines are described as restricted in circulation.
The measures also include protecting the cockpit with a secured door, along with additional barriers in some new commercial aircraft according to U.S. requirements. Therefore, the publicly circulated numbers explain emergency signals and air identification, while the details of access and operational security procedures remain within the scope of the relevant authorities.
