بعد أشهر من الجدل والانتقادات، يُسدل الستار على واحد من أكثر مراكز احتجاز المهاجرين إثارة للجدل في الولايات المتحدة، فالموقع الذي اشتهر بإحاطته بالمستنقعات والتماسيح، والذي صُمم ليجعل الهروب شبه مستحيل، أصبح اليوم خاليًا تمامًا من المحتجزين.
وأعلنت ولاية فلوريدا إغلاق مركز احتجاز المهاجرين المعروف باسم «أليغيتور ألكاتراز»، المقام وسط مستنقعات إيفرجليدز، وذلك بعد انتهاء المهمة التي أُنشئ من أجلها، وفقًا لما أكده حاكم الولاية رون ديسانتيس.
وأوضح ديسانتيس أن المركز لم يعد يضم أي محتجزين، مشيرًا إلى أنه ساهم خلال فترة تشغيله في احتجاز وترحيل أشخاص وصفهم بـ«الخطرين»، مؤكدًا أن المنشأة كانت منذ البداية حلاً مؤقتًا وليست مركزًا دائمًا.
وكان اختيار موقع المركز داخل مستنقعات إيفرجليدز قد أثار اهتمامًا واسعًا، إذ بررت السلطات الأمريكية القرار بأن الطبيعة المحيطة، المعروفة بانتشار التماسيح، تشكل حاجزًا طبيعيًا يصعّب أي محاولة للهروب.
واستُخدم المركز لإيواء آلاف المهاجرين بانتظار استكمال إجراءات ترحيلهم، فيما افتتحه الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب في منتصف عام 2025.
ويحمل اسم «أليغيتور ألكاتراز»، دلالة مستوحاة من سجن «ألكاتراز» الشهير قبالة سواحل سان فرانسيسكو، الذي ارتبط تاريخيًا بإجراءات أمنية مشددة وسمعة جعلت الهروب منه شبه مستحيل.

Florida has announced the closure of the immigrant detention center known as "Alligator Alcatraz," located in the midst of the Everglades, following the completion of its intended mission, according to state Governor Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis clarified that the center no longer houses any detainees, noting that it contributed during its operation to the detention and deportation of individuals he described as "dangerous," emphasizing that the facility was intended from the beginning as a temporary solution and not a permanent center.
The choice of the center's location within the Everglades swamps garnered widespread attention, as U.S. authorities justified the decision by stating that the surrounding nature, known for its alligator population, creates a natural barrier that complicates any escape attempts.
The center was used to house thousands of migrants awaiting the completion of their deportation procedures, having been opened by President Donald Trump in mid-2025.
The name "Alligator Alcatraz" is inspired by the famous "Alcatraz" prison off the coast of San Francisco, which has historically been associated with strict security measures and a reputation that made escape nearly impossible.
