وأفادت الإدارة الوطنية لسلامة المرور على الطرق السريعة بأنها باشرت، تحقيقاً خاصاً في حادث تصادم وقع يوم الجمعة الماضي قرب مدينة هيوستن، بعدما اصطدمت سيارة «تسلا موديل 3» بمنزل بسرعة عالية، ما أدى إلى وفاة امرأة تبلغ من العمر 76 عاماً كانت موجودة داخل المنزل وقت الحادث.
ويكتسب التحقيق أهمية إضافية نظراً لكون المركبة كانت تعتمد على تقنيات القيادة الذاتية التي تُعد أحد الأعمدة الرئيسية في رؤية شركة Tesla لمستقبل النقل، وهو ما يضع الحادث تحت مجهر الجهات التنظيمية بشكل أكبر من المعتاد.

In an incident that reignites the debate over the safety of autonomous driving systems, the highest regulatory authority for road safety in the United States announced the opening of an official investigation following a fatal accident involving a Tesla vehicle operating on autopilot in Texas.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that it has initiated a special investigation into a collision that occurred last Friday near Houston, after a Tesla Model 3 crashed into a house at high speed, resulting in the death of a 76-year-old woman who was inside the house at the time of the incident.
The investigation gains additional significance as the vehicle was relying on autonomous driving technologies, which are considered one of the main pillars of Tesla's vision for the future of transportation, placing the accident under greater scrutiny from regulatory authorities than usual.
