في عملية أمنية وصفت بأنها من أبرز إنجازات مكافحة الاحتيال الصحي في الولايات المتحدة، أعلنت السلطات الفيدرالية إلقاء القبض على رجل يواجه اتهامات بالضلوع في واحدة من أكبر قضايا النصب المرتبطة ببرنامج «ميديكير» الحكومي، بقيمة تُقدَّر بنحو 3.7 مليار دولار.
وأفاد مدير مكتب التحقيقات الفيدرالي (FBI) كاش باتيل أن المتهم إبراهيم خلدون حلمي كان فاراً من العدالة منذ مايو 2025، قبل أن تنجح فرق مشتركة من الـ«FBI» في ميامي ووزارة العدل الأمريكية، وبالتعاون مع شركاء في تركيا، في تحديد موقعه والقبض عليه خارج الولايات المتحدة، ليجري لاحقاً ترحيله لمواجهة التهم الموجهة إليه.
ووصف باتيل العملية بأنها «نجاح كبير» في إطار جهود موسعة تستهدف مكافحة الاحتيال المالي، مؤكداً أن السلطات الأمريكية ستواصل ملاحقة المتورطين في قضايا استغلال أموال دافعي الضرائب «أينما كانوا».
كما أشاد بدور عدد من الشركاء الدوليين، من بينهم السفير الأمريكي لدى تركيا توم باراك، مشيراً إلى أن تعاونهم كان محورياً في إنجاح عملية التوقيف وتسليم المتهم إلى العدالة الأمريكية.
In a law enforcement operation described as one of the most significant achievements in combating healthcare fraud in the United States, federal authorities announced the arrest of a man facing charges related to one of the largest fraud cases linked to the government’s Medicare program, valued at approximately $3.7 billion.
FBI Director Kash Patel reported that the accused, Ibrahim Khaldoun Helmi, had been a fugitive since May 2025, before joint teams from the FBI in Miami and the U.S. Department of Justice, in collaboration with partners in Turkey, successfully located and arrested him outside the United States, leading to his subsequent extradition to face the charges against him.
Patel described the operation as a “major success” in the context of expanded efforts aimed at combating financial fraud, emphasizing that U.S. authorities will continue to pursue those involved in cases of exploiting taxpayer funds “wherever they are.”
He also praised the role of several international partners, including U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barak, noting that their cooperation was pivotal in successfully executing the arrest and delivering the accused to U.S. justice.
