تحولت إصابة رياضية عادية في الركبة اليمنى إلى كابوس غيّر مجرى حياة الشابة التركية سيلفيهان أوزديمير، البالغة من العمر 30 عاماً، بعدما خضعت لعملية جراحية في القدم السليمة عن طريق الخطأ، لتجد نفسها في مواجهة معاناة صحية مستمرة ونزاع قضائي لم يُحسم حتى اليوم.
وكانت أوزديمير، المقيمة في مدينة أنطاليا جنوب تركيا، قد تعرضت لإصابة في ركبتها اليمنى أثناء ممارسة الرياضة قبل نحو عامين. وبحثاً عن علاج سريع بعيداً عن قوائم الانتظار في المستشفيات الحكومية، توجهت إلى مستشفى خاص، حيث أوصى الطبيب المشرف على حالتها بإجراء تدخل جراحي لمعالجة الإصابة.
وفي صباح يوم العملية، وضع الطبيب علامة على ركبتها اليسرى بدلاً من اليمنى. ورغم ملاحظتها لذلك، لم يثر الأمر شكوكها، إذ اعتقدت أن الإجراء مرتبط بالخطة العلاجية التي سبق أن شرحها لها الطبيب، والتي فهمت منها إمكانية استخدام أنسجة أو جزء من العظم من الساق الأخرى.
لكن الصدمة جاءت فور استيقاظها من العملية، عندما اكتشفت أن الركبة التي خضعت للجراحة هي اليسرى السليمة، فيما بقيت الركبة اليمنى المصابة دون أي تدخل طبي. ومنذ تلك اللحظة بدأت رحلة طويلة من المعاناة الجسدية والنفسية.
ولتصحيح الخطأ، لجأت الشابة لاحقاً إلى مستشفى حكومي، حيث خضعت لعملية جديدة في الركبة اليمنى المصابة بالفعل. ورغم نجاح الجراحتين من الناحية الطبية وتعافيها خلال فترة قصيرة، إلا أن حالتها الصحية لم تعد كما كانت. فقد أصبحت تعاني من آلام مستمرة وصعوبة في الحركة، كما فقدت القدرة على ممارسة الرياضة والركض أو حتى المشي بالسرعة التي اعتادت عليها سابقاً.
وتقول أوزديمير إن قدمها تتعرض للتورم عند الوقوف لفترات طويلة أو خلال الأجواء الباردة، كما تواجه صعوبة في الوقوف والحركة بعد الجلوس لفترات ممتدة، وهو ما أثر بشكل مباشر على حياتها اليومية والمهنية.
وبحسب ما أفادت به، أقر الطبيب بخطئه بعد العملية، إلا أن القضية تحولت إلى نزاع قضائي يتعلق بالتعويضات، ولا تزال جلساته مستمرة أمام المحاكم منذ ذلك الحين.
وخلال فترة التقاضي، دفعت أوزديمير ثمناً باهظاً لذلك الخطأ الطبي، إذ فقدت وظيفتها وتراجعت قدرتها على ممارسة أبسط الأنشطة التي كانت جزءاً من حياتها اليومية، لتبقى قصتها مثالاً مؤلماً على التداعيات التي قد يتركها خطأ طبي واحد على مستقبل إنسان بأكمله.
A routine sports injury in her right knee turned into a nightmare that changed the life of 30-year-old Turkish woman Selvi Han Ozdimer, after she underwent surgery on her healthy foot by mistake, finding herself facing ongoing health struggles and a legal battle that remains unresolved to this day.
Ozdimer, who resides in the city of Antalya in southern Turkey, suffered an injury to her right knee while exercising about two years ago. In search of quick treatment away from the waiting lists at public hospitals, she went to a private hospital, where the supervising doctor recommended surgical intervention to address the injury.
On the morning of the surgery, the doctor marked her left knee instead of the right one. Although she noticed this, it did not raise her suspicions, as she believed the procedure was related to the treatment plan that the doctor had previously explained to her, which she understood to involve the use of tissue or a part of the bone from the other leg.
But the shock came immediately after she woke up from the surgery, when she discovered that the knee that had undergone surgery was her healthy left knee, while the injured right knee remained untouched. From that moment on, she began a long journey of physical and psychological suffering.
To correct the mistake, the young woman later sought treatment at a public hospital, where she underwent a new surgery on her already injured right knee. Although both surgeries were medically successful and she recovered within a short period, her health condition was no longer the same. She began to suffer from persistent pain and difficulty moving, and she lost the ability to engage in sports, run, or even walk at the speed she was accustomed to before.
Ozdimer says that her foot swells when standing for long periods or in cold weather, and she faces difficulty standing and moving after sitting for extended periods, which has directly affected her daily and professional life.
According to her account, the doctor admitted his mistake after the surgery, but the case turned into a legal dispute regarding compensation, and its sessions have been ongoing in the courts since then.
During the litigation period, Ozdimer paid a heavy price for that medical error, as she lost her job and her ability to engage in the simplest activities that were part of her daily life, leaving her story as a painful example of the repercussions that a single medical mistake can have on an entire person's future.
