أعلنت النيابة في مقاطعة سوفولك توجيه اتهامات ثقيلة إلى روبرت شرايبر (42 عاماً)، على خلفية هجوم دموي استهدف شاباً في منزل أسرته بمنطقة باتشوغ، على الساحل الجنوبي لجزيرة لونغ آيلاند نيويورك.
وبحسب بيان المدعي العام، ريموند أ. تيرني، تسلل المتهم إلى المنزل مع ساعات الفجر الأولى عبر نافذة غير محكمة الإغلاق، قبل أن يتجه مباشرة إلى غرفة الضحية (22 عاماً)، حيث حطم الباب واقتحم المكان، مسدداً سبع طعنات مركزة إلى الرأس والرقبة والكتف، في هجوم وُصف بأنه بالغ العنف.
التحقيقات كشفت أن الجريمة جاءت بعد يوم واحد فقط من إنهاء علاقة عاطفية بين المتهم ووالدة الضحية، التي كانت قد منعته من دخول المنزل.
نُقل المصاب إلى مستشفى جامعة نيويورك لانغون، حيث خضع لتدخلات طبية عاجلة شملت غرزاً جراحية لعلاج إصاباته.
الشرطة ألقت القبض على المتهم داخل موقع الحادث، وضبطت بحوزته السلاح المستخدم، وفق ما أكدته شرطة المقاطعة.
المدعي العام وصف الواقعة بأنها «اعتداء عنيف داخل نطاق أسري»، مؤكداً المضي قدماً في الإجراءات القانونية. ويواجه شرايبر سلسلة اتهامات خطيرة، أبرزها الشروع في القتل من الدرجة الثانية، والسطو من الدرجة الأولى، والاعتداء، وحيازة سلاح بشكل غير قانوني.
المحكمة قررت حبسه مع تحديد كفالة مالية تبلغ مليون دولار، على أن يمثل أمام القضاء في 28 مايو، وسط احتمال صدور حكم بالسجن يصل إلى 25 عاماً في حال إدانته.
The Suffolk County District Attorney announced serious charges against Robert Schreiber (42 years old), following a bloody attack on a young man at his family’s home in Patchogue, on the southern coast of Long Island, New York.
According to a statement from District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney, the accused broke into the home in the early hours of dawn through a poorly secured window, before heading directly to the victim’s (22 years old) room, where he smashed the door and stormed in, delivering seven concentrated stabs to the head, neck, and shoulder, in an attack described as extremely violent.
Investigations revealed that the crime occurred just one day after the accused ended a romantic relationship with the victim's mother, who had barred him from entering the home.
The injured man was taken to NYU Langone Hospital, where he underwent urgent medical interventions that included surgical stitches to treat his injuries.
The police arrested the suspect at the scene of the incident and seized the weapon used, as confirmed by the county police.
The district attorney described the incident as a “violent assault within a domestic context,” affirming that legal proceedings would move forward. Schreiber faces a series of serious charges, including attempted second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, assault, and illegal possession of a weapon.
The court decided to hold him in custody with bail set at one million dollars, and he is scheduled to appear in court on May 28, with the possibility of a prison sentence of up to 25 years if convicted.
