في مشهد طبيعي نادر ومخيف في آن واحد، تحولت مدينة سانت كاترين في جنوب سيناء بمصر إلى ساحة عاصفة رعدية وسيول جارفة اجتاحت الأودية الجبلية بعد موجة تقلبات جوية عنيفة ومفاجئة ضربت المنطقة خلال ساعات.
المنطقة شهدت تدفقات مائية قوية عبر أودية شقيرة والسعال والفرجة، وسط حالة طوارئ أعلنتها محافظة جنوب سيناء، التي رفعت درجة الاستعداد القصوى تحسبًا لأي تطورات إضافية مع استمرار عدم استقرار الطقس.
لكن وسط هذا المشهد القاسي، برزت لحظة إنسانية لافتة، حين نجحت جهود مشتركة بين الأجهزة التنفيذية وقوات الشرطة ورجال المرور وأهالي المنطقة في إنقاذ ثلاثة ركاب كانوا على متن أتوبيس جرفته السيول أثناء مروره في منطقة سعال كاترين.
الإنقاذ لم يكن عشوائيًا، بل جاء نتيجة استجابة سريعة وتعاون مباشر بين الجهات الرسمية والمواطنين، حيث تم استخدام معدات ثقيلة لتأمين الموقع والوصول إلى الركاب قبل تفاقم الموقف.
وفي استجابة عاجلة للأحداث، أصدر محافظ جنوب سيناء توجيهات بتشكيل لجنة لحصر الخسائر الناتجة عن موجة السيول، تمهيدًا لإصلاح البنية التحتية وتعويض المتضررين بشكل فوري.
وتأتي هذه التطورات في ظل تأثر مصر بمنخفض جوي صحراوي خماسيني، تسبب في ارتفاع درجات الحرارة بشكل ملحوظ قبل أن ينقلب الطقس فجأة إلى سحب رعدية وأمطار غزيرة على مناطق متفرقة من سلاسل جبال البحر الأحمر وجنوب سيناء.
وحذرت هيئة الأرصاد من استمرار فرص سقوط أمطار متوسطة إلى غزيرة قد تتحول إلى سيول في المناطق الجبلية، خصوصًا في سانت كاترين، نظرًا لطبيعتها الجغرافية التي تجعلها أكثر عرضة لتجمع مياه الأمطار في الأودية.
In a rare and frightening natural scene, the city of Saint Catherine in South Sinai, Egypt, turned into a stormy arena with torrential floods sweeping through the mountainous valleys after a wave of violent and sudden weather fluctuations hit the region within hours.
The area witnessed strong water flows through the valleys of Shuqayra, Al-Sa'al, and Al-Furja, amid a state of emergency declared by the South Sinai Governorate, which raised the alert level to the maximum in anticipation of any additional developments as the weather remained unstable.
But amidst this harsh scene, a remarkable human moment emerged when joint efforts between the executive authorities, police forces, traffic personnel, and local residents succeeded in rescuing three passengers who were on a bus swept away by the floods while passing through the Al-Sa'al area of Saint Catherine.
The rescue was not random; it came as a result of a swift response and direct cooperation between official entities and citizens, where heavy equipment was used to secure the site and reach the passengers before the situation worsened.
In an urgent response to the events, the Governor of South Sinai issued directives to form a committee to assess the damages caused by the wave of floods, in preparation for repairing the infrastructure and compensating the affected individuals immediately.
These developments come amid Egypt being affected by a desert low-pressure system, which caused a noticeable rise in temperatures before the weather suddenly turned to thunderclouds and heavy rains in various areas of the Red Sea mountain ranges and South Sinai.
The Meteorological Authority warned of the continued chances of moderate to heavy rainfall that could turn into floods in the mountainous areas, especially in Saint Catherine, due to its geographical nature that makes it more susceptible to rainwater accumulation in the valleys.
