أسدلت محكمة النقض المصرية الستار على واحدة من أكثر القضايا الجنائية إثارة للجدل في البلاد، بعدما قضت بتأييد حكم الإعدام الصادر بحق المتهم كريم سليم، ورفض الطعن الذي تقدم به فريق دفاعه في القضية المعروفة إعلاميًا باسم «سفاح التجمع»، والتي هزّت الرأي العام بعد مقتل ثلاث فتيات بطرق صادمة قبل أقل من عامين.
وتعود خيوط القضية إلى العثور على جثث الضحايا في نطاق منطقة التجمع الخامس، وعلى الطرق المؤدية إلى طريقي السويس والإسماعيلية الصحراويين، ما دفع الأجهزة الأمنية إلى تكثيف تحرياتها لكشف ملابسات الجرائم. وأسفرت التحقيقات عن تحديد هوية المتهم وإلقاء القبض عليه في 24 مايو 2024.
وبعد توقيفه، جرى حبسه على ذمة التحقيقات قبل إحالته إلى المحاكمة الجنائية، حيث أصدرت محكمة الجنايات في 12 سبتمبر من العام ذاته حكمها بإعدامه، عقب جلسات مطولة شهدت استجوابه والاستماع إلى شهادات الشهود.
ولم يتوقف المسار القضائي عند هذا الحد، إذ تقدّم دفاع المتهم باستئناف على الحكم خلال المدة القانونية، لتنظر القضية أمام محكمة جنايات مستأنف، التي أيدت بدورها عقوبة الإعدام في 25 ديسمبر. وبعد ذلك لجأ فريق الدفاع إلى الطعن أمام محكمة النقض، باعتبارها آخر درجات التقاضي، غير أن المحكمة رفضت الطعن وأقرت الحكم النهائي.
وكشفت التحقيقات أن المتهم انزلق إلى طريق الجريمة تدريجيًا، بدءًا من تعاطي المواد المخدرة، قبل أن تتصاعد أفعاله إلى ارتكاب جرائم قتل متسلسلة هزّت المجتمع.
وفي سياق متصل، يجري التحضير لعرض فيلم يحمل عنوان «سفاح التجمع» مستوحى من تفاصيل القضية، ويُعد من أبرز الأعمال المنتظرة في موسم أفلام عيد الفطر، ويقوم ببطولته الفنان أحمد الفيشاوي.
The Egyptian Court of Cassation has drawn the curtain on one of the most controversial criminal cases in the country, after it upheld the death sentence issued against the accused Karim Salim, rejecting the appeal submitted by his defense team in the case known in the media as the "Gathering Serial Killer," which shook public opinion after the murder of three girls in shocking ways less than two years ago.
The threads of the case date back to the discovery of the victims' bodies in the Fifth Settlement area, and on the roads leading to the Suez and Ismailia desert roads, prompting security agencies to intensify their investigations to uncover the circumstances of the crimes. The investigations led to identifying the accused and his arrest on May 24, 2024.
After his arrest, he was detained pending investigations before being referred to criminal trial, where the criminal court issued its death sentence on September 12 of the same year, following lengthy sessions that included his interrogation and the hearing of witness testimonies.
The judicial process did not stop there, as the defendant's defense team filed an appeal against the ruling within the legal timeframe, leading the case to be reviewed by a Court of Appeals, which upheld the death penalty on December 25. After that, the defense team resorted to the Court of Cassation, considering it the last level of litigation, but the court rejected the appeal and confirmed the final ruling.
Investigations revealed that the accused gradually slipped into a life of crime, starting with drug use, before his actions escalated to committing a series of murders that shook society.
In a related context, preparations are underway to release a film titled "Gathering Serial Killer," inspired by the details of the case, and it is considered one of the most anticipated works in the Eid al-Fitr film season, starring actor Ahmed El Fishawy.
