أكد وزير التجارة البريطاني كريس براينت، اليوم (الجمعة)، وقوع اختراق إلكتروني لأنظمة وزارة الخارجية البريطانية في أكتوبر الماضي، مما يؤكد تقارير إعلامية سابقة تتهم مجموعة قرصنة صينية بالمسؤولية عن الوصول إلى بيانات حساسة.
اختراق كبير لوزارة الخارجية البريطانية
وقال براينت في مقابلة مع إذاعة «تايمز راديو»: «بالتأكيد حدث اختراق»، مضيفاً أنه «غير قادر على القول ما إذا كان مرتبطاً مباشرة بعناصر صينية أو بالدولة الصينية نفسها».
ووصف براينت بعض التفاصيل المنشورة بأنها «تكهنات»، مشيراً إلى أن التحقيقات مستمرة، لكنه أعرب عن ثقة الحكومة في أن المخاطر على الأفراد «منخفضة جداً».
ثغرة أمنية
وأوضح في مقابلة مع «سكاي نيوز»: الثغرة الأمنية كانت «مشكلة فنية في أحد مواقعنا»، وأنها تم إغلاقها بسرعة كبيرة.
أصابع الاتهام تُشير نحو الصين
وفقاً لتقرير «ذا صن»، يُعتقد أن مجموعة القرصنة المعروفة باسم «ستورم-1849»، والمرتبطة بالصين وجزء من جهاز القرصنة المدعوم من الدولة، مسؤولة عن الاختراق، الذي قد يشمل عشرات الآلاف من تفاصيل التأشيرات، وتُتهم هذه المجموعة باستهداف سياسيين وجماعات تنتقد الحكومة الصينية.
توترات متزايدة بين لندن وبكين
تأتي هذه الحادثة في سياق توترات متزايدة بين بريطانيا والصين، إذ أكد رئيس الوزراء البريطاني كير ستارمر في وقت سابق من ديسمبر أن الصين تشكل «تهديدات أمنية قومية» لبريطانيا، رغم دفاعه عن تعزيز التعاون مع بكين.
كما تتبع الاختراق سلسلة من الهجمات الإلكترونية الكبرى على شركات بريطانية هذا العام، مثل إيقاف إنتاج شركة جاكوار لاند روفر لخمسة أسابيع، وتعليق طلبات عبر الإنترنت في متاجر ماركس أند سبنسر لستة أسابيع.
تحقيقات بريطانية
من جانبها، أكدت وزارة الخارجية أنها تحقق في الحادثة الإلكترونية، وقال متحدث حكومي: «نحن نأخذ أمن أنظمتنا وبياناتنا على محمل الجد الشديد».
British Trade Minister Chris Bryant confirmed today (Friday) that there was a cyber breach of the British Foreign Office systems last October, which corroborates previous media reports accusing a Chinese hacking group of being responsible for accessing sensitive data.

Bryant said in an interview with Times Radio: "There was definitely a breach," adding that he was "unable to say whether it was directly linked to Chinese elements or the Chinese state itself."
Bryant described some of the published details as "speculation," noting that investigations are ongoing, but he expressed the government's confidence that the risks to individuals are "very low."
Security Vulnerability
He explained in an interview with Sky News that the security vulnerability was "a technical issue on one of our sites," and that it was closed very quickly.
Fingers Pointing at China
According to a report by The Sun, the hacking group known as "Storm-1849," which is linked to China and part of a state-sponsored hacking apparatus, is believed to be responsible for the breach, which may involve tens of thousands of visa details. This group is accused of targeting politicians and groups that criticize the Chinese government.
Increasing Tensions Between London and Beijing
This incident comes amid increasing tensions between Britain and China, as British Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed earlier in December that China poses "national security threats" to Britain, despite advocating for enhanced cooperation with Beijing.
The breach follows a series of major cyberattacks on British companies this year, such as the five-week shutdown of Jaguar Land Rover's production and the suspension of online orders at Marks & Spencer stores for six weeks.
British Investigations
For its part, the Foreign Office confirmed that it is investigating the cyber incident, with a government spokesperson stating: "We take the security of our systems and data very seriously."
