نجح 3 نزلاء متهمين بجرائم عنف خطيرة، من بينها محاولة قتل واغتصاب من الدرجة الأولى، في الهروب من سجن مقاطعة سانت لاندري بولاية لويزيانا الأمريكية، فجر الأربعاء الماضي ، بعد أن فكّوا جزءاً متآكلاً من جدار زنزانتهم باليد، ثم استخدموا ملاءات مربوطة بعضها ببعض لتسلق جدار خارجي والقفز إلى السطح ثم إلى الأرض.
هروب 3 سجناء أمريكيين
أُعلن عن الحادثة في مدينة أوبيلوساس (شمال غرب نيو أورلينز بنحو 209 كم)، وهي أحدث عملية هروب جريئة تشهدها سجون لويزيانا خلال العام الحالي.
وكان قد سبقها في وقت سابق من 2025 هروب 10 نزلاء من سجن نيو أورلينز بعد أن زحفوا من فتحة خلف مرحاض، تاركين رسالة ساخرة على الحائط كتبوا فيها: «كان الأمر سهلاً جداً»، واستغرق إعادة القبض عليهم 5 أشهر كاملة وبحثاً عابرًا لعدة ولايات.
جدار متآكل وملاءات
وقال المسؤول عن السجن بوبي جي غيدروز: «اكتشف النزلاء جزءاً متدهوراً في الجدار العلوي، وبمرور الوقت أزالوا المونة الإسمنتية يدوياً حتى تمكنوا من إخراج كتل الخرسانة وخلق فتحة خروج»، ثم استخدموا «الملاءات والأغطية» كحبال لتسلق الجدار الخارجي والنزول إلى سطح الطابق الأول ثم إلى الشارع.
هاربان طليقان وثالث يقتل نفسه
الهاربان اللذان لا يزالان طليقين هما: كيث إيلي (24 عاماً) من أوبيلوساس، متهم بمحاولة قتل من الدرجة الثانية، جوناثان جيفون جوزيف (24 عاماً) من أوبيلوساس، متهم بالاشتراك في جريمة اغتصاب من الدرجة الأولى وعدة تهم أخرى.
أما النزيل الثالث، جوزيف ألين هارينغتون (26 عاماً) من ميلفيل، والمتهم باقتحام منزل وعدة جنايات، فقد قتل نفسه بعد ساعات قليلة من الهروب.
وتلقّت الشرطة بلاغاً من مواطن تعرف عليه وهو يدفع دراجة كهربائية سوداء، وعندما حاصرت الشرطة المنزل وطالبته بالخروج عبر مكبرات الصوت، سُمع طلق ناري واحد، ثم داهمت الشرطة المكان فوجدته قد أطلق النار على نفسه ببندقية صيد.
وقال المتحدث باسم مكتب مدير السجن الرائد مارك لوبلانك: «لم نسجل سابقاً اختراقاً للمبنى بهذه الطريقة، لكن أي سجين يملك الوقت والفرصة سيحاول الهروب، هؤلاء الثلاثة كانوا أكثر إبداعاً من سابقيهم».
تحقيقات داخلية
وحتى الآن، لا توجد مؤشرات موثوقة على أن الهاربين غادرا المقاطعة، وحذّر لوبلانك السكان قائلاً: «إنهم متهمون بجرائم عنف خطيرة، وهم يائسون للبقاء طلقاء، أغلقوا أبواب منازلكم وسياراتكم جيداً».
وأكد أن تحقيقاً داخلياً سيُفتح لمعرفة كيف تُرك الجدار في حالة تدهور تسمح بمثل هذا الهروب السينمائي.
Three inmates accused of serious violent crimes, including attempted murder and first-degree rape, successfully escaped from the St. Landry Parish Jail in Louisiana, USA, early last Wednesday after they manually removed a deteriorated section of their cell wall, then used tied bed sheets to climb an outer wall and jump to the roof and then to the ground.
Escape of 3 American Prisoners
The incident was reported in the city of Opelousas (about 209 km northwest of New Orleans), marking the latest bold escape from Louisiana prisons this year.
Earlier in 2025, ten inmates had escaped from the New Orleans Jail after crawling through a hole behind a toilet, leaving a sarcastic message on the wall that read: "It was so easy," and it took five full months to recapture them, with a search spanning several states.
Deteriorated Wall and Bed Sheets
Jail warden Bobby G. Guidroz stated: "The inmates discovered a deteriorated section of the upper wall, and over time they manually removed the cement mortar until they were able to pull out concrete blocks and create an exit hole," then they used "sheets and blankets" as ropes to climb the outer wall and descend to the first-floor roof and then to the street.
Two Escapees at Large and One Commits Suicide
The two escapees still at large are: Keith Ely (24) from Opelousas, charged with second-degree attempted murder, and Jonathan Givon Joseph (24) from Opelousas, charged with involvement in first-degree rape and several other charges.
The third inmate, Joseph Allen Harrington (26) from Melville, who was charged with burglary and several felonies, committed suicide just hours after the escape.
The police received a report from a citizen who recognized him while he was riding a black electric bike, and when the police surrounded the house and demanded he come out via loudspeakers, a single gunshot was heard. When the police stormed the place, they found he had shot himself with a hunting rifle.
Spokesman for the jail director's office, Major Mark LeBlanc, said: "We have not previously recorded a breach of the building in this manner, but any inmate with the time and opportunity will attempt to escape; these three were more creative than their predecessors."
Internal Investigations
So far, there are no reliable indications that the escapees have left the parish, and LeBlanc warned residents, saying: "They are accused of serious violent crimes, and they are desperate to remain at large; secure your home and car doors well."
He confirmed that an internal investigation will be opened to determine how the wall was left in a deteriorated state that allowed for such a cinematic escape.
