لقي ما لا يقل عن 18 شخصًا مصرعهم جراء انهيارات أرضية ناجمة عن الأمطار الغزيرة التي ضربت منطقتين في مقاطعة جاوة الوسطى بإندونيسيا الأسبوع الماضي، حسبما أعلنت السلطات اليوم (الإثنين)، فيما لا تزال عمليات البحث عن المفقودين جارية في ظروف بالغة الصعوبة.

في مدينة سيلاساب، تسبب انهيار أرضي هائل الأسبوع الماضي في دفن أكثر من 12 منزلًا في قرية سيبيونينغ تحت طبقات من الطين والصخور بلغ عمقها بين 3 و8 أمتار.

وفي حادثة منفصلة، ضرب انهيار أرضي آخر منطقة بانجارنيغارا في جاوة الوسطى يوم السبت الماضي، ما أسفر عن مقتل شخصين وفقدان 27 آخرين.
وأوضحت وكالة إدارة الكوارث أن نحو 30 منزلًا وعددًا من المزارع تضررت بشكل بالغ أو دُمرت كليًا.

تأتي هاتان الحادثتان المأساويتان مع بدء موسم الأمطار الموسمية في إندونيسيا منذ سبتمبر الماضي، الذي من المتوقع أن يستمر حتى أبريل المقبل، إذ حذرت هيئة الأرصاد الجوية من احتمال تساقط أمطار غزيرة جدًا وفيضانات مفاجئة في العديد من المناطق، مما يرفع مستوى الخطر على السكان في المناطق الجبلية والمنخفضة على حد سواء.

Footage broadcast by Kompas TV today showed heavy excavators digging through the mud blocks in search of survivors or bodies.

In a separate incident, another landslide struck the Banjarnegara area in Central Java last Saturday, resulting in the deaths of two people and the disappearance of 27 others.
The disaster management agency explained that around 30 houses and several farms were severely damaged or completely destroyed.

These two tragic incidents come as the monsoon rainy season in Indonesia began last September, which is expected to last until next April, as the meteorological agency warned of the possibility of very heavy rains and flash floods in many areas, raising the risk level for residents in both mountainous and low-lying areas.
Rescue teams continue to work around the clock amid fears of additional landslides as the rains persist.
