في ساعات قليلة حوّلت العاصفة «كلوديا» هدوءَ أوروبا إلى فوضى عارمة؛ إذ ضربت البرتغال بقوة مدمّرة أودت بحياة ثلاثة أشخاص وأصابت العشرات، بينما هرعت فرق الإنقاذ في بريطانيا لإجلاء السكان بعد أن غمرت الفيضانات شوارع ويلز وإنجلترا.
وتشهد البرتغال وأجزاء من إسبانيا المجاورة منذ أيام أحوالاً مناخية قاسية جراء العاصفة التي امتدت بحلول اليوم إلى مناطق في بريطانيا وإيرلندا، حسب وكالة «رويترز» للأنباء.
وعثرت فرق الإنقاذ يوم الخميس على جثتي زوجين مسنين داخل منزلهما الذي غمرته المياه في منطقة فيرناو فيرو قرب لشبونة.
وقالت خدمات الطوارئ إن إعصاراً ضرب مدينة ألبوفيرا في جنوب البرتغال أمس (السبت).
وأظهر مقطع مصور نُشر على الإنترنت الإعصار وهو يدمر عربات متنقلة في موقع تخييم، فيما أكد قائد الحماية المدنية الإقليمية فيتور فاز بينتو مقتل امرأة بريطانية تبلغ من العمر 85 عاماً.
وأضاف أن 28 شخصاً أصيبوا في فندق قريب من بينهم اثنان في المستشفى بإصابات خطيرة.
وفي بريطانيا، شهدت بلدة مونماوث والمناطق المجاورة في جنوب شرق ويلز أمس فيضانات عارمة.
وقالت خدمة الإطفاء والإنقاذ في جنوب ويلز إنها تقوم بعمليات إنقاذ وإجلاء.
وقال متحدث باسم الحكومة في ويلز: «تسببت العاصفة كلوديا في حدوث فيضانات كبيرة في أجزاء من ويلز خلال الليل، لا تزال تؤثر على المنازل والشركات والنقل والبنية التحتية للطاقة».

Portugal and parts of neighboring Spain have been experiencing severe weather conditions for days due to the storm, which by today has extended to areas in Britain and Ireland, according to Reuters.
On Thursday, rescue teams found the bodies of an elderly couple inside their home, which was submerged in water in the area of Vernau Viro near Lisbon.
The emergency services reported that a tornado struck the city of Albufeira in southern Portugal yesterday (Saturday).
A video posted online showed the tornado destroying mobile homes at a campsite, while the regional civil protection chief, Vitor Vaz Pinto, confirmed the death of an 85-year-old British woman.
He added that 28 people were injured at a nearby hotel, including two who were hospitalized with serious injuries.
In Britain, the town of Monmouth and surrounding areas in southeast Wales experienced severe flooding yesterday.
The South Wales Fire and Rescue Service stated that they are conducting rescue and evacuation operations.
A government spokesperson in Wales said: "Storm Claudia has caused significant flooding in parts of Wales overnight, still affecting homes, businesses, transport, and energy infrastructure."
