أعلنت السلطات البرازيلية، مصرع ستة أشخاص وإصابة أكثر من 400 آخرين جراء إعصار ضرب ولاية بارانا جنوبي البلاد، متسبباً في أضرار جسيمة بالممتلكات. وأظهرت صور نشرها الدفاع المدني في بارانا حجم الدمار الذي لحق بالمنازل والسيارات والطرق في بلدية «ريو بونيتو دو إيجواسو»، عقب إعصار من الفئة (F2) ضرب المنطقة (الجمعة).
واستمر الإعصار بضع دقائق، إلا أنه كان مصحوباً بتساقط كثيف للبرد ورياح عاتية بلغت سرعتها نحو 250 كيلومتراً في الساعة.
ويصنف إعصار الفئة (F2) بأنه «إعصار قوي»، إذ تراوح سرعة رياحه بين 181 و250 كيلومتراً في الساعة، بحسب الهيئة الوطنية للأرصاد الجوية في الولايات المتحدة.
وأوضح الدفاع المدني أن نحو 90% من البلدة تضررت جراء العاصفة، فيما تواصل فرق الإغاثة عمليات البحث عن ناجين وانتشال الجثث من بين الأنقاض، مع إنشاء مركز إيواء في بلدة مجاورة لاستقبال المتضررين.
كما تسببت رياح قوية وعواصف مصحوبة بتساقط البرد في أضرار بعدة مدن بولاية بارانا وولايات مجاورة.
وقال الرئيس البرازيلي لويس إيناسيو لولا دا سيلفا إن فريقاً يضم وزراء وخبراء إغاثة توجه إلى المناطق المنكوبة لتقييم الأوضاع وتقديم الدعم اللازم.
وأصدر المعهد الوطني البرازيلي للأرصاد الجوية تحذيراً من عواصف شديدة تشمل مختلف مناطق ولاية بارانا وولايتي سانتا كاتارينا وريو غراندي دو سول الجنوبيتين.
يذكر أن جنوب البرازيل شهد العام الماضي فيضانات كبرى أسفرت عن مقتل أكثر من 200 شخص وتشريد مليوني شخص في ولاية ريو غراندي دو سول، في واحدة من أسوأ الكوارث الطبيعية في تاريخ البلاد الحديث، وسط تحذيرات من خبراء بشأن تأثير الاحترار المناخي في تفاقم هذه الظواهر.
Brazilian authorities announced the death of six people and the injury of more than 400 others due to a tornado that struck the state of Paraná in the south of the country, causing severe damage to property. Images published by the civil defense in Paraná showed the extent of the destruction inflicted on homes, cars, and roads in the municipality of "Rio Bonito do Iguaçu," following a category (F2) tornado that hit the area (on Friday).
The tornado lasted for a few minutes, but it was accompanied by heavy hail and fierce winds that reached speeds of about 250 kilometers per hour.
The F2 tornado is classified as a "strong tornado," with wind speeds ranging from 181 to 250 kilometers per hour, according to the National Weather Service in the United States.
The civil defense explained that about 90% of the town was affected by the storm, while rescue teams continue their operations to search for survivors and recover bodies from the rubble, with a shelter center established in a neighboring town to accommodate those affected.
Strong winds and storms accompanied by hail also caused damage in several cities in Paraná and neighboring states.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated that a team of ministers and relief experts has been dispatched to the affected areas to assess the situation and provide necessary support.
The Brazilian National Institute of Meteorology issued a warning of severe storms affecting various regions of Paraná and the southern states of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.
It is worth mentioning that southern Brazil experienced major floods last year that resulted in the deaths of more than 200 people and displaced two million people in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in one of the worst natural disasters in the country’s modern history, amid warnings from experts about the impact of climate warming on exacerbating these phenomena.
