لم يكن الليل في غابة «غوا موسانغ» يشبه سابقه؛ سكون ثقيل لا يقطعه سوى همس الريح بين الأشجار، قبل أن يتبدّل الهدوء إلى صرخةٍ مدوّية، في لحظةٍ خاطفة، تحوّل موقع العمل إلى ساحة رعب، حين ظهر فيلٌ هائج من ظلام الغابة، متجهاً نحو خيمة العمال كإعصارٍ غاضب. حاول الجميع الهرب، لكنّ المشرف ذي الـ43 عاماً سعيدي جاهري، لم ينجُ من غضب الوحش، لتصبح تلك الليلة الأخيرة في حياته بين أنياب الطبيعة التي لا ترحم.
وقال مدير الشرطة سيك تشون فو، إن العمال حاولوا نقله إلى مكان آمن، إلا أن الفيل الذكر، المشتبه بأنه زعيم القطيع، عاد في وقت لاحق وهاجم الموقع مرة أخرى.
واضطر العمال للفرار وتركوا سعيدي، الذي عُثر عليه لاحقاً ميتاً على طريق الخروج، مصاباً بإصابات تتوافق مع تعرضه للدهس من قبل الفيل.
وأفادت السلطات بأنها أبلغت إدارة الحياة البرية والمتنزهات الوطنية، التي تعمل حالياً على تتبع القطيع واحتوائه لمنع حوادث مماثلة.
وتحدث شقيق الضحية، سليمان جاهري، إلى وسائل الإعلام، مستذكراً آخر لقاء له مع سعيدي خلال احتفال عيد الميلاد، واصفاً إياه بأنه شخص هادئ ومرح. وأضاف أن سعيدي عمل في قطاع قطع الأشجار نحو 30 عاماً، لكنه قضى أسبوعين فقط في موقع الحادث الذي تم فتحه أخيراً للقطع، ولم تسبق له مواجهة حيوانات برية هناك.

In a fleeting moment, the worksite turned into a scene of horror as a rampaging elephant emerged from the darkness of the forest, heading towards the workers' tent like an angry tornado. Everyone tried to escape, but the 43-year-old supervisor, Saidi Jahari, did not survive the wrath of the beast, making that night the last of his life among the merciless jaws of nature.
Police director Sik Chun Foo stated that the workers attempted to move him to a safe place, but the male elephant, suspected to be the leader of the herd, returned later and attacked the site again.
The workers were forced to flee, leaving Saidi behind, who was later found dead on the exit road, with injuries consistent with being trampled by the elephant.
Authorities reported that they have notified the wildlife and national parks department, which is currently working to track and contain the herd to prevent similar incidents.
Saidi's brother, Suleiman Jahari, spoke to the media, recalling his last meeting with Saidi during a Christmas celebration, describing him as a calm and cheerful person. He added that Saidi had worked in the logging sector for about 30 years, but he had only spent two weeks at the site of the incident, which had recently opened for logging, and he had never encountered wild animals there before.
