تحوّل يوم هادئ على شاطئ مايال بيتش في أقصى شمال كوينزلاند الأسترالية إلى لحظات رعب، بعدما هاجم تمساح ضخم فتى يبلغ من العمر 14 عامًا، متسببًا له بجروح في الساق والبطن، قبل أن ينجو بأعجوبة بمساعدة الموجودين في المكان.
وقالت خدمات الإسعاف في كوينزلاند إن الهجوم وقع قرب منطقة كيب تريبيوليشن خارج مدينة كيرنز، مشيرة إلى أن الفتى كان يقف على مقربة من الشاطئ عندما انقض عليه التمساح فجأة. وتمكن عدد من المارة من سحبه بسرعة إلى برّ الأمان.
وبحسب شهود العيان، هرع عدد من الممرضين المقيمين في نزل قريب لتقديم الإسعافات الأولية للفتى بمساعدة سكان المنطقة، بينما قال مدير فندق محلي هاري هارتلي، إن «مجتمع كيب بأكمله خرج لمساعدته»، في مشهد مؤثر يعكس روح التعاون في المنطقة.
وأوضح رجل الأعمال المحلي لورنس ماسون أن الفتى نُقل عبر ممتلكاته إلى نقطة يمكن أن تهبط فيها مروحية الإنقاذ، التي تولّت نقله إلى مستشفى كيرنز وهينترلاند، إذ أكدت الإدارة الطبية أن حالته مستقرة بعد تلقي العلاج اللازم.
من جانبها، أعلنت إدارة المتنزهات والحياة البرية في كوينزلاند فتح تحقيق في الحادثة، مشيرة إلى أن المنطقة شهدت أخيرًا أربع مشاهدات لتمساح واحد على الأقل خلال الأسابيع الماضية. وتعمل الفرق المختصة على تتبّعه واتخاذ إجراءات السلامة اللازمة.
ودعت السلطات السكان والزوار إلى الإبلاغ عن أي مشاهدات جديدة للتماسيح في المنطقة، ضمن الجهود الرامية إلى حماية مرتادي الشواطئ في شمال كوينزلاند.
A quiet day at Myall Beach in far north Queensland, Australia, turned into moments of horror when a massive crocodile attacked a 14-year-old boy, causing injuries to his leg and abdomen, before he miraculously survived with the help of those present.
Queensland Ambulance Services reported that the attack occurred near Cape Tribulation outside the city of Cairns, noting that the boy was standing close to the shore when the crocodile suddenly lunged at him. Several passersby quickly pulled him to safety.
According to eyewitnesses, a number of nurses staying at a nearby lodge rushed to provide first aid to the boy with the help of local residents, while a local hotel manager, Harry Hartley, stated that "the entire Cape community came out to help him," in a touching scene that reflects the spirit of cooperation in the area.
Local businessman Lawrence Mason explained that the boy was transported across his property to a point where a rescue helicopter could land, which then took him to Cairns Hospital and Hinterland, where medical management confirmed that his condition is stable after receiving the necessary treatment.
For its part, the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service announced the opening of an investigation into the incident, noting that the area has recently witnessed four sightings of at least one crocodile over the past few weeks. Specialized teams are working to track it and take the necessary safety measures.
Authorities have urged residents and visitors to report any new crocodile sightings in the area as part of efforts to protect beachgoers in northern Queensland.
