في مشهد غير مألوف، أعلنت المليونيرة الكندية آن كابلان مولولاند تحويل قلعتها التاريخية في كينت إلى «دولة مجهرية»، احتجاجاً على التعديلات الضريبية الجديدة في بريطانيا التي اعتبرتها غير عادلة للأثرياء غير المقيمين.
ووسط موكب احتفالي غريب، شمل ملكات سحب ومهرجين وحرس شرف وهمي، ظهرت المليونيرة الكندية (64 عاماً) في زي ملكي فاخر على عربة تجرها الخيول، لتعلن قيام «إمارة ليمبني» من قلعتها التي تعود للقرن الـ13، التي اشترتها بعد انتقالها إلى المملكة المتحدة في 2022.
وقالت مولولاند المعروفة بمشاركتها السابقة في برنامج «ربات البيوت الحقيقيات في تورنتو» ومؤسسة شركة القروض الدولية iFinance، إنها قررت مغادرة بريطانيا مع زوجها خلال أيام، نتيجة لإلغاء نظام «غير المقيمين» الذي كان يتيح للأجانب تجنّب الضرائب على الدخل والأرباح المحققة خارج البلاد.
وأشارت إلى أن النظام الجديد الذي فرضته وزيرة المالية راشيل ريف يفرض ضرائب على الأصول العالمية بعد 10 سنوات من الإقامة، وهو ما وصفته بأنه «خطأ اقتصادي جسيم» سيدفع الأثرياء للمغادرة.
وأضافت المليونيرة الكندية: «نحن أثرياء وندفع ضرائبنا، لكن لم يعد من المنطقي البقاء هنا. يمكننا ببساطة ركوب القطار والذهاب إلى مكان آخر. فإيطاليا على سبيل المثال تفرض ضريبة موحدة تبلغ 200 ألف يورو فقط على الدخل الأجنبي».
ورغم حبها للعيش في بريطانيا، إلا أنها أكدت أن «الولاء لا يجب أن يكون على حساب القرارات التجارية السليمة». كما لم تستبعد العودة إذا أعادت الحكومة النظر في النظام الضريبي.

Amid a bizarre celebratory parade that included drag queens, clowns, and a mock honor guard, the 64-year-old Canadian millionaire appeared in luxurious royal attire on a horse-drawn carriage to declare the establishment of the "Principality of Limbney" from her 13th-century castle, which she purchased after moving to the UK in 2022.
Mulholland, known for her previous participation in the show "The Real Housewives of Toronto" and as the founder of the international loan company iFinance, stated that she and her husband decided to leave Britain within days due to the abolition of the "non-resident" system that allowed foreigners to avoid taxes on income and profits earned outside the country.
She pointed out that the new system imposed by Finance Minister Rachel Reeves taxes global assets after 10 years of residency, which she described as a "grave economic error" that would drive the wealthy to leave.
The Canadian millionaire added, "We are wealthy and we pay our taxes, but it no longer makes sense to stay here. We can simply take a train and go somewhere else. Italy, for example, imposes a flat tax of only 200,000 euros on foreign income."
Despite her love for living in Britain, she emphasized that "loyalty should not come at the expense of sound business decisions." She also did not rule out returning if the government reconsidered the tax system.
