لقي ثلاثة أشخاص مصرعهم وأُصيب 13 آخرون بجروح متفاوتة، إثر انفجار ضخم وقع صباح اليوم (الجمعة) داخل مبنى سكني مكوّن من ثمانية طوابق العاصمة الرومانية بوخارست، وسط ترجيحات بأن يكون تسرّب غاز وراء الكارثة.
وذكرت خدمات الطوارئ الرومانية أن الانفجار ألحق أضرارًا جسيمة بطابقين من المبنى، ما جعله مهددًا بالانهيار ودفع السلطات إلى إجلاء السكان بالكامل، إضافة إلى طلاب ومعلمين في مدرسة ثانوية مجاورة، تحسبًا لوقوع انفجارات جديدة.
وأفادت فرق الإنقاذ بأن عمليات البحث لا تزال مستمرة للعثور على ضحايا محتملين، مؤكدةً العثور على شخص محاصر تحت الأنقاض في الطابق السادس. فيما صرّح رئيس دائرة الطوارئ الرومانية رائد عرفات بأن الغاز هو السبب المرجّح للانفجار، دون الخوض في مزيد من التفاصيل.
وفي تصريحات نقلها التلفزيون المحلي من موقع الحادثة، قال عرفات إن «المبنى يواجه خطر الانهيار الكامل، ولذلك يعمل رجال الإطفاء على إخلائه بشكل عاجل»، مضيفًا أن السلطات أغلقت المنطقة بالكامل باعتبارها منطقة خطرة.
وأفاد شهود عيان لوسائل إعلام محلية بأنهم شعروا وكأنهم «يتعرضون لقصف»، بينما قال آخرون إنهم ظنوا أن زلزالًا قويًا قد وقع بسبب شدة الانفجار الذي تسبب في تطاير النوافذ وتحطم الواجهات الزجاجية.
من جهته، أكد مفتش التعليم في بوخارست أن اثنين من الجرحى في حالة حرجة، بينما أُصيب عدد من الطلاب بجروح طفيفة داخل المدرسة القريبة نتيجة تناثر الزجاج، مشيرًا إلى أنهم تلقوا الإسعافات الأولية قبل أن يغادروا مع ذويهم.
ولا تزال السلطات الرومانية تواصل التحقيقات لتحديد الأسباب الدقيقة وراء الانفجار الذي أعاد إلى الأذهان كوارث الغاز التي شهدتها مدن أوروبية في السنوات الأخيرة.
Three people were killed and 13 others were injured with varying degrees of wounds following a massive explosion that occurred this morning (Friday) inside an eight-story residential building in the Romanian capital, Bucharest, amid indications that a gas leak may have caused the disaster.
The Romanian emergency services reported that the explosion caused severe damage to two floors of the building, making it at risk of collapse and prompting authorities to evacuate all residents, as well as students and teachers from a nearby high school, in anticipation of further explosions.
Rescue teams stated that search operations are still ongoing to find potential victims, confirming that one person was found trapped under the rubble on the sixth floor. Meanwhile, the head of the Romanian emergency department, Raed Arafat, stated that gas is the likely cause of the explosion, without going into further details.
In statements relayed by local television from the scene of the incident, Arafat said that "the building is facing the risk of complete collapse, and therefore firefighters are working to evacuate it urgently," adding that authorities have closed the entire area as it is considered hazardous.
Eyewitnesses told local media that they felt as if they were "under bombardment," while others said they thought a strong earthquake had occurred due to the intensity of the explosion, which caused windows to shatter and glass facades to break.
For his part, the education inspector in Bucharest confirmed that two of the injured are in critical condition, while several students sustained minor injuries inside the nearby school due to flying glass, noting that they received first aid before leaving with their families.
The Romanian authorities are still continuing investigations to determine the exact causes of the explosion, which has brought to mind gas disasters that have occurred in European cities in recent years.
