The Greek Ministry of Culture announced that a stone crown, an ancient artifact dating back to the 4th century BC, which was stolen over 50 years ago from the site of "Olympia," has finally returned to its original home.

Stolen from a Historic Guesthouse

The crown, made of limestone and measuring 24×33.5 centimeters, was part of a historic building called "Leonidiad," which was used to host visitors during classical times.

A German Woman Returns the Crown

The piece was returned by a German woman out of ethical motives, and she handed it over to the University of Münster, which in turn coordinated its return to Greece. The ministry described her actions as "brave and humanitarian."

Not the First Time

This piece is the third artifact to be returned from the University of Münster in recent years, following a wine cup from the 1896 Olympics and a marble head from a Roman tomb in Thessaloniki.

Hope for the Return of the Parthenon

Greece is currently seeking to expand agreements for the return of artifacts, hoping to eventually recover the Parthenon marbles held in the British Museum since the 19th century.
