The British Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) announced the recall of a range of children's jewelry from Amazon after discovering that it contained high levels of the carcinogenic substance cadmium. The agency indicated that the colorful rings sold online in the form of "silver butterflies" exceeded the safe limit by more than four times the European standards, making them a danger to children's health.

The agency clarified that cadmium can enter the body through the skin or mouth, causing damage to the kidneys and bones, and is linked to lung cancer with chronic exposure. The agency recommended that parents stop using the products immediately and dispose of them safely. For its part, Amazon confirmed that it has removed the contaminated items from its platform and has begun a comprehensive review of independent sellers to ensure that products comply with EU chemical safety standards.
