تشهد منطقة الهيمالايا كارثة طبيعية مزدوجة مع تفاقم الأوضاع المناخية، إذ حاصرت عاصفة ثلجية شديدة نحو 1000 سائح ومتسلق في مواقع التخييم على الجانب التبتي الشرقي من جبل إيفرست، بينما أودت أمطار غزيرة وانهيارات أرضية بحياة 47 شخصا على الأقل في نيبال المجاورة.
وفيما تسابق فرق الإنقاذ الزمن لفتح الطرق المغلقة بالثلوج في التبت، تكافح نيبال لإجلاء المتضررين من فيضانات مدمرة دمرت بنى تحتية وأجبرت آلاف السكان على النزوح.
عاصفة ثلجية في التبت
وتستمر اليوم (الأحد)، جهود الإنقاذ في الجانب التبتي الشرقي من جبل إيفرست، حيث حاصرت عاصفة ثلجية شديدة نحو 1000 شخص في مواقع التخييم على ارتفاع يفوق 4900 متر، مما أدى إلى إغلاق الطرق وتعطيل الوصول إلى المنطقة، وفقا لتقارير وسائل إعلام صينية رسمية.
وانتشر مئات السكان المحليين وفرق الإنقاذ للمساعدة في إزالة الثلوج التي تسد الطرق، وسط مخاوف من تفاقم الوضع مع استمرار الطقس السيئ في المنطقة الجبلية العالية.
بدأت العاصفة الثلجية مساء الجمعة، واستمرت طوال يوم السبت، مما دفع شركة السياحة في مقاطعة تينغري إلى تعليق بيع التذاكر ودخول منطقة إيفرست السياحية منذ مساء السبت، وفقا لإعلانات على حساباتها الرسمية في تطبيق ويتشات.
وأفادت وسائل إعلام صينية أن بعض السياح تم إجلاؤهم بالفعل إلى أسفل الجبل، لكن مئات آخرين ما زالوا محاصرين في المخيمات، مع تحذيرات من مخاطر الإرهاق والتجمد في هذه الارتفاعات العالية.
وأكدت السلطات التبتية أن الإنقاذ يتم باستخدام معدات ثقيلة لكشف الطرق، مع نشر نحو 200 متطوع محلي من قرى تينغري، التي تقع على بعد 80 كم شمال إيفرست.
ولم يُبلغ عن إصابات أو وفيات حتى الآن، لكن الطقس المتقلب يعيق العمليات، إذ يتوقع استمرار الثلوج حتى الإثنين، حسب توقعات الطقس الصينية.
وتذكر هذه الحادثة بكوارث سابقة في المنطقة، مثل عاصفة 2013 التي حاصرت 86 سائحا في معسكر القاعدة الشمالي، وزلزال يناير 2025 الذي أدى إلى إنقاذ نحو 400 شخص في تينغري.
47 قتيلاً في نيبال
في الوقت نفسه، عبر الحدود في نيبال، أدت أمطار غزيرة إلى انهيارات أرضية وفيضانات مفاجئة، مما أسفر عن مقتل 47 شخصا على الأقل منذ الجمعة، إضافة إلى اختفاء 9 آخرين، وفقا لتصريحات الشرطة النيبالية.
وأدت هذه الكوارث إلى إغلاق طرق رئيسية، وغمر جسور، وتدمير منازل في المناطق الشرقية والوسطى، مما يفاقم أزمة الحكومة الانتقالية في نيبال بعد احتجاجات عنيفة أطاحت بالحكومة السابقة الشهر الماضي.
وأعلن الجيش النيبالي نشر قوات ومروحيات لإنقاذ نحو 200 شخص في أكثر من 20 موقعا، مع تعطيل الرحلات الداخلية جزئيا وإغلاق طرق رئيسية مثل الطريق السريع بريثفي.
كما قُتل 35 شخصا في انهيارات أرضية منفصلة في مقاطعة إيلام الشرقية، التي تحدها الهند، بينما جُرف 9 آخرون بفعل الفيضانات، ومات 3 آخرون بسبب صواعق كهربائية في مناطق أخرى، حسب كالي داس دهاوباجي، المتحدث باسم قوة الشرطة المسلحة النيبالية.
وامتدت آثار الأمطار الغزيرة إلى ولاية بيهار الهندية المجاورة، إذ قُتل 10 أشخاص على الأقل بسبب فيضانات وصواعق، وفقا لمسؤولين محليين. وأفادت تقارير محلية بأن منطقة الهيمالايا الشرقية تشهد تصعيدا في مثل هذه الكوارث بسبب تغير المناخ، مع تسجيل أكثر من 40 قتيلا في دارجيلينغ الهندية وحدها.
بدورهم، أكد خبراء الطقس أن هذه الأمطار غير الموسمية -خارج موسم الرياح الموسمية الذي ينتهي عادة في سبتمبر- تعكس نمطا غير مستقر ناتج عن الاحتباس الحراري، مما يهدد السياحة في إيفرست، التي تجذب آلاف الزوار سنويا، كما دعت الحكومة النيبالية إلى تجنب السفر غير الضروري، بينما في الصين، أغلقت السلطات المنطقة مؤقتا للسياحة لضمان السلامة.

Snowstorm in Tibet
Today (Sunday), rescue efforts continue on the eastern Tibetan side of Mount Everest, where a severe snowstorm has trapped around 1,000 people in camping sites at altitudes exceeding 4,900 meters, leading to road closures and hindering access to the area, according to reports from official Chinese media.
Hundreds of local residents and rescue teams have spread out to help clear the snow blocking the roads, amid fears that the situation may worsen as bad weather persists in the high mountainous region.
The snowstorm began on Friday evening and continued throughout Saturday, prompting a tourism company in Tingri County to suspend ticket sales and entry to the Everest tourist area since Saturday evening, according to announcements on its official accounts on WeChat.
Chinese media reported that some tourists have already been evacuated down the mountain, but hundreds more remain trapped in the camps, with warnings of exhaustion and frostbite risks at these high altitudes.
Tibetan authorities confirmed that rescue operations are being conducted using heavy equipment to clear the roads, with about 200 local volunteers from Tingri villages, located 80 km north of Everest, deployed to assist.
No injuries or fatalities have been reported so far, but the fluctuating weather is hindering operations, with snow expected to continue until Monday, according to Chinese weather forecasts.
This incident recalls previous disasters in the region, such as the 2013 storm that trapped 86 tourists at the northern base camp, and the January 2025 earthquake that led to the rescue of around 400 people in Tingri.
47 Dead in Nepal
Meanwhile, across the border in Nepal, heavy rains have caused landslides and flash floods, resulting in the deaths of at least 47 people since Friday, along with 9 others reported missing, according to statements from Nepalese police.
These disasters have led to the closure of major roads, submerged bridges, and destroyed homes in eastern and central regions, exacerbating the crisis for the transitional government in Nepal following violent protests that ousted the previous government last month.
The Nepalese army announced the deployment of troops and helicopters to rescue around 200 people in more than 20 locations, with domestic flights partially disrupted and major roads like the Prithvi Highway closed.
Additionally, 35 people were killed in separate landslides in the eastern Ilam district, which borders India, while 9 others were swept away by floods, and 3 more died from lightning strikes in other areas, according to Kali Das Dhaupaghi, spokesperson for the Nepalese Armed Police Force.
The effects of the heavy rains have extended to the neighboring Indian state of Bihar, where at least 10 people have died due to floods and lightning, according to local officials. Local reports indicate that the eastern Himalayas region is experiencing an escalation in such disasters due to climate change, with over 40 fatalities recorded in Darjeeling, India alone.
For their part, weather experts confirmed that these unseasonal rains—outside the monsoon season, which typically ends in September—reflect an unstable pattern resulting from global warming, threatening tourism in Everest, which attracts thousands of visitors annually. The Nepalese government has urged people to avoid unnecessary travel, while in China, authorities have temporarily closed the area to tourism to ensure safety.
