An ordinary hunting trip turned into a painful tragedy in the state of Iowa, USA, after a 17-year-old boy lost his life from a bullet fired accidentally, as his friend mistook him for a "squirrel" during a wild chase.

Details of the Incident

Carson Ryan was a senior at Washington High School and a member of the football team. He had gone out with his friends on a squirrel hunting trip. However, one of them fired his weapon, believing he was aiming at prey, hitting Carson directly in the head.

He was immediately transported to UI Health Care, but the injuries were fatal, and he was pronounced dead later.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the incident, amidst shock and disbelief in his community in Washington, where he was known as an ambitious and beloved young man who loved sports and nature, and was filled with religious values.

The track and field team at his school mourned the young man through an emotional post on Facebook: "Our hearts are broken.. We ask you to pray for his family and classmates during these difficult moments."

A memorial gathering was also held to bid him farewell, with a large attendance from students, teachers, and the local community.

Friends of the family launched a fundraising campaign on the GoFundMe platform, which has raised over $53,000 so far to help the family during this ordeal.

Kelsey Wheeler, a close friend of the family, said: "Carson was a bright light in everyone's life, a kind, pure, and cheerful person."
