In a tragic scene that shook the city of Sidoarjo in East Java, an Islamic boarding school collapsed unexpectedly yesterday (Monday) while students were performing group prayers, resulting in the deaths of at least 3 children, 98 injuries, and more than 65 others missing under the rubble.

Race Against Time

Indonesian rescue teams are working around the clock searching for survivors amid the debris of the collapsed building. Nanang Sigit, an official from the National Rescue Agency, confirmed that 11 students have been found so far, while dozens of children are still unaccounted for.

Mysterious Circumstances

Despite ongoing investigations, initial information suggests that workers were pouring concrete on the upper floor of the building at the time of the disaster. It appears that the supporting columns could not bear the weight, leading to the roof's collapse and falling directly onto the students on the lower floor.

Additional Collapses

Although water and oxygen have been provided to some students trapped under the rubble, the situation remains extremely dangerous, as what remains of the structure is at risk of falling, complicating rescue operations and making every passing minute precious in the race for survival.

Government Alert

For its part, local authorities declared a state of emergency and continue rescue efforts, while parents are demanding an urgent investigation into the reasons behind the building's collapse, amid questions regarding the quality and safety of the construction.
