لم يكن الصياد البريطاني آرثر ديوهيرست يتوقع أن تتحول رحلة صيده الروتينية إلى اكتشاف غير مألوف، حين امتلأت شباكه بمئات الأخطبوطات المتلوية بدلًا من الأسماك المعتادة.
أرباح غير مسبوقة
صدمته الأولى تحولت إلى فرحة، فكل كيلوغرام من الأخطبوط يُباع بنحو 7 جنيهات إسترلينية، مما منحه أرباحًا وصلت إلى 10 آلاف جنيه إسترليني أسبوعيًا.
يقول آرثر ضاحكًا: «كل ما فكرت فيه هو: علامات الدولار! علامات الدولار!»
غزو ذكي وقاتل
وتشهد مناطق ديفون وكورنوال جنوب إنجلترا ما يشبه غزوًا من الأخطبوطات، والتي تُعرف بذكائها الشديد، إذ بدأت تملأ شباك الصيادين وتفترس كل ما يقف في طريقها من سرطانات البحر والسلطعون وحتى اللوبستر.
بريق في السوق
في مدينة بريكسهام، حيث يقع أكبر سوق للأسماك في إنجلترا، أصبح الحديث عن الأخطبوط هو الشغل الشاغل. ورسم مقهى على الميناء أخطبوطًا ضخمًا على واجهته، بينما أضافه أحد المطاعم إلى قائمة الطعام بجانب السمك والبطاطس التقليدية، بل نشر صاحبه فيديو تعليمي يُظهر كيفية طهيه، مع أن وجوده لا يزال غريبًا على المطبخ البريطاني.
تحوّل بيئي أم ظاهرة مؤقتة؟
رغم السعادة الغامرة للصيادين، يطرح البعض تساؤلات حول أسباب هذا التزايد المفاجئ: هل هو تغير مناخي؟ أم اختلال في التوازن البيئي؟
ولم يؤكد الباحثون سبب هذه الظاهرة حتى الآن، لكن من المؤكد أن الساحل الجنوبي لإنجلترا يعيش أغرب مواسم الصيد منذ سنوات.

Despite the overwhelming happiness of the fishermen, some are questioning the reasons behind this sudden increase: Is it climate change? Or an ecological imbalance?
Researchers have not yet confirmed the cause of this phenomenon, but it is certain that the southern coast of England is experiencing the strangest fishing seasons in years.
