تحولت حفلة عائلية إلى مأساة مدوية في مدينة ساو فرانسيسكو شرق البرازيل، بعدما تناولت طفلتان كعكة أُعدت داخل المنزل لتسقط إحداهما جثة هامدة، فيما نجت شقيقتها من موت محقق بأعراض أخف.

تدهورت حالة الطفلة ألانا دوس سانتوس (9 أعوام) سريعاً بعد إصابتها بقيء حاد وآلام شديدة في المعدة، قبل أن تُنقل إلى المستشفى حيث فارقت الحياة نتيجة سكتة قلبية تنفسية. حتى القطة التي لحست قطعة من الكعكة لم تنجُ، إذ ظهرت عليها علامات التسمم ونفقت لاحقاً.
مادة سامة
وكشفت التحاليل المخبرية وجود مادة «تيربوفوس»، وهو مبيد حشري شديد السمية يهاجم الجهاز العصبي ويسبب تشنجات وضعفاً في العضلات وانقطاعاً في التنفس قد يؤدي إلى الوفاة. كما أكد تشريح القطة أن سبب نفوقها مرتبط بفشل كبدي ناجم عن التسمم.
اعتقال الجدة
من جانبها، ألقت الشرطة القبض على الجدة إيزابيل كاردوسو دي أندرادي (59 عاماً). وأعلن محاميها أنها تتعاون مع السلطات وسمحت بتفتيش منزلها، بينما لم يتضح بعد إن كان التسميم مدبراً أم حادثاً عرضياً، ولم يُكشف حتى الآن أي دافع محتمل للجريمة.
صدى عالمي
أعادت هذه القضية للأذهان سلسلة جرائم مشابهة، بينها حادثة وقعت العام الماضي في البرازيل حين اتُّهمت سيدة بقتل ثلاثة من عائلة زوجها بكعكة ممزوجة بالزرنيخ، إضافة إلى قضية الأسترالية إيرين باترسون التي أُدينت بقتل أقارب زوجها السابق بوجبة «بيف ويلينغتون» ملوثة بفطر سام.

Details of the Tragedy
The condition of the girl Alana dos Santos (9 years old) deteriorated rapidly after she suffered from severe vomiting and intense stomach pain, before being transported to the hospital where she passed away due to respiratory cardiac arrest. Even the cat that licked a piece of the cake did not survive, as it showed signs of poisoning and later died.
Toxic Substance
Laboratory analyses revealed the presence of "terbufos," a highly toxic pesticide that attacks the nervous system and causes convulsions, muscle weakness, and respiratory failure that can lead to death. An autopsy of the cat confirmed that its death was related to liver failure caused by poisoning.
Arrest of the Grandmother
Meanwhile, the police arrested the grandmother Isabel Cardoso de Andrade (59 years old). Her lawyer announced that she is cooperating with the authorities and allowed them to search her home, while it is still unclear whether the poisoning was intentional or an accident, and no potential motive for the crime has been revealed so far.

This case has brought to mind a series of similar crimes, including an incident that occurred last year in Brazil when a woman was accused of killing three members of her husband's family with a cake laced with arsenic, in addition to the case of Australian Erin Patterson, who was convicted of killing her former in-laws with a "beef Wellington" meal contaminated with toxic mushrooms.
