أعلن قصر باكنغهام أن الملكة البريطانية كاميلا زوجة الملك تشارلز ألغت حضور جنازة دوقة كينت بسبب تعافيها من التهاب الجيوب الأنفية الحاد.
وقال متحدث باسم القصر: «ببالغ الأسف، انسحبت الملكة من حضور قداس الجنازة الذي سيُقام بعد ظهر اليوم لدوقة كينت، وذلك لتعافيها من التهاب حاد في الجيوب الأنفية». وأشار إلى أن كاميلا ستُقدم خالص تعازيها ومواساتها لدوق كينت وجميع أفراد الأسرة.
وقالت صحيفة ديلي ميل إن كاميلا تأمل أن تتعافى بشكل كافٍ لحضور جميع عناصر الزيارة الرسمية التي سيقوم بها الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، إضافة إلى الارتباطات الأخرى، خصوصا أن برنامجها هذا الأسبوع من المقرر أن يكون مزدحمًا للغاية.
وتشير تقارير صحفية إلى أن كاميلا سافرت من أسكتلندا هذا الصباح، وستخصص اليوم للراحة في وندسور.
من جانبه، أبدى دوق كينت الأمير إدوارد تفهمه لقرار الملكة، وأرسل لها أطيب تمنياته بالشفاء العاجل.
وكانت كاثرين وورسلي زوجة دوق كينت (ابن عم الملكة إليزابيث الثانية الراحلة) قد فارقت الحياة عن عمر يناهز 92 عامًا في منزلها بقصر كينسينغتون في الرابع من سبتمبر الجاري.
Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Camilla, the wife of King Charles, canceled her attendance at the funeral of the Duchess of Kent due to her recovery from acute sinusitis.
A palace spokesperson said: “With great regret, the Queen has withdrawn from attending the funeral service that will be held this afternoon for the Duchess of Kent, due to her recovery from acute sinusitis.” He noted that Camilla will extend her sincere condolences and sympathy to the Duke of Kent and all family members.
The Daily Mail reported that Camilla hopes to recover sufficiently to attend all elements of the official visit by U.S. President Donald Trump, in addition to other engagements, especially since her schedule this week is expected to be very busy.
Press reports indicate that Camilla traveled from Scotland this morning and will dedicate today to resting in Windsor.
For his part, the Duke of Kent, Prince Edward, expressed his understanding of the Queen's decision and sent her his best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Katherine Worsley, the wife of the Duke of Kent (the cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II), passed away at the age of 92 in her home at Kensington Palace on September 4th.
