The boy was taken to the hospital, but he was soon pronounced dead.
A person was detained at the scene for questioning but was later released, while the police are working to review local surveillance cameras in an attempt to identify the perpetrator. According to investigators, there is a strong possibility that the suspect will face a murder charge, as investigator Michael Cass confirmed that the incident does not appear to be a case of self-defense, given that the shooting occurred away from the home.

In Dallas, a man shot at a car that was fleeing after someone rang his doorbell at the end of July, and the man was arrested on charges of aggravated assault. In another incident in Virginia in May, an 18-year-old was killed while filming a video of this game, resulting in a second-degree murder charge against the person who shot him.
Authorities in various U.S. states continue to warn teenagers and young people about the dangers of such challenges, noting that what may seem like a joke or a challenge can lead to serious legal problems. The Hamilton County Sheriff in Indiana warned in a Facebook post, saying, "The game may seem funny, but it can lead to serious legal issues, property damage, or even death." In Florida, the Volusia County Sheriff stated after the arrest of teenagers for attempts at "ding dong ditch": "This is the road leading to your end, especially in Florida."
