حقق ثلاثة أشقاء من إسكتلندا إنجازًا تاريخيًا بعد أن أصبحوا أسرع من عبَر المحيط الهادئ بالقوة البشرية. جيمي، إيوان، ولاشلان ماكلين، الذين وُلِدوا في إدنبرة، وصلوا إلى مدينة كيرنز الأسترالية بعد رحلة شاقة استغرقت 139 يومًا و5 ساعات و52 دقيقة، ليحققوا الرقم القياسي العالمي في التجديف عبر أكبر محيط في العالم.
كانت هذه الرحلة المذهلة أول عملية عبور من أمريكا الجنوبية إلى أستراليا بالتجديف، ما يجعل الأشقاء أول فريق على الإطلاق يسجل هذا الإنجاز المذهل. الرقم القياسي السابق كان قد حققه الروسي فيدور كونيوكوف في عام 2014 حين قطع مسافة 11,898 كيلومترًا من تشيلي إلى أستراليا في 159 يومًا و16 ساعة و58 دقيقة.
الإخوة ماكلين ليسوا غرباء عن تحقيق الأرقام القياسية، فقد أصبحوا في عام 2020 أسرع وأصغر فريق عبَر المحيط الأطلسي بالتجديف، وتمكنوا حينها من جمع أكثر من 200 ألف جنيه إسترليني لصالح الأعمال الخيرية.
وتعتبر الرحلة الأخيرة واحدة من أعتى وأصعب رحلات التجديف في المياه المفتوحة. الأشقاء انطلقوا في قارب «روز إيميلي» المصنوع من ألياف الكربون من نادي اليخوت البيروفي. وقاموا بالتجديف في مناوبات مدتها ساعتان، دون أي إعادة تزويد بالإمدادات أو قارب أمان.
وهذه الرحلة لم تكن فقط مسابقة رياضية، بل كانت أيضًا مشروعًا إنسانيًا، إذ جمع الأشقاء مليون جنيه إسترليني لمشاريع المياه النظيفة في مدغشقر. كما حملوا 500 كيلوغرام من الطعام، بما في ذلك 75 كيلوغرامًا من الشوفان، وكانوا يتناولون وجبات عالية السعرات الحرارية لضمان قدرتهم على الاستمرار في التجديف لمسافات طويلة.
ولا يعتبر هذا الإنجاز مجرد دليل على القوة البدنية والقدرة على التحمل، بل يعكس أيضًا التفاني في خدمة قضايا إنسانية نبيلة، ليكتب الأشقاء ماكلين اسمهم بحروف من ذهب في تاريخ الرياضة والأعمال الخيرية.

The previous record was held by Russian Fedor Konyukhov in 2014 when he covered a distance of 11,898 kilometers from Chile to Australia in 159 days, 16 hours, and 58 minutes.
The Maclean brothers are no strangers to breaking records, as they became the fastest and youngest team to row across the Atlantic Ocean in 2020, managing to raise over £200,000 for charity at that time.
The recent journey is considered one of the toughest and most challenging open-water rowing trips. The brothers set off in the carbon fiber boat "Rose Emily" from the Peruvian yacht club. They rowed in two-hour shifts, without any resupply of provisions or safety boat.
This journey was not only a sporting competition but also a humanitarian project, as the brothers raised £1 million for clean water projects in Madagascar. They carried 500 kilograms of food, including 75 kilograms of oats, and consumed high-calorie meals to ensure they could continue rowing long distances.
