ضرب زلزال بقوة 5 درجات على مقياس ريختر، اليوم، شمال تشيلي.
وذكرت هيئة المسح الجيولوجي الأمريكية في بيان أن مركز الزلزال كان على بعد 18 كيلومترا شرق بلدة كامينا الواقعة شمال تشيلي، وعلى عمق 100.5 كيلومتر.
ولم ترد إلى الآن تقارير بوقوع أضرار مادية أو بشرية جراء الزلزال.
يذكر أنه في العام 2010، ضرب زلزال بقوة 8.8 درجة تبعته موجات مد عاتية «تسونامي» وسط وجنوب تشيلي، وراح ضحيته 500 شخص.
وتقع تشيلي في منطقة تسمى «حزام النار»، وهي قوس من التصدعات التي تحيط بحوض المحيط الهادئ ومعرضة لزلازل متكررة ونشاط بركاني.
A 5.0 magnitude earthquake struck today in northern Chile.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported in a statement that the epicenter of the earthquake was located 18 kilometers east of the town of Camina in northern Chile, at a depth of 100.5 kilometers.
So far, there have been no reports of material or human damage as a result of the earthquake.
It is worth mentioning that in 2010, an 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck, followed by powerful tsunami waves in central and southern Chile, resulting in the loss of 500 lives.
Chile is located in an area known as the "Ring of Fire," which is an arc of faults surrounding the Pacific Ocean basin and is prone to frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity.
