أعلن المحامي العام في دمشق القاضي حسام خطاب أن وفاة الشاب يوسف محمد لباد البالغ من العمر 32 عاماً، كانت نتيجة نقص الأكسجة الدماغية بسبب نوبة اختلاجية.
وأوضح القاضي خطاب، في تصريح لوكالة «سانا» أن اللجنة الطبية الثلاثية التي شكلت للتحقيق في الحادثة خلصت إلى أن النوبة الاختلاجية جاءت نتيجة تعاطي المتوفى لمادتي الأمفيتامين والفلوكستين (مضاد للاكتئاب)، إضافة إلى تعرضه لشدة نفسية وهياج خلال فترة الوفاة.
كما استبعدت اللجنة أن تكون الإصابات الطفيفة الظاهرية، مثل السحجات والكدمات السطحية، سببًا للوفاة، مشيرة إلى عدم وجود أذيات داخلية خطيرة مثل النزوف الدماغية أو الكسور العظمية.
يذكر أن وفاة يوسف اللباد أثارت جدلاً واسعاً في سورية بعد عودته من ألمانيا وتوقيفه على يد عناصر من حماية المسجد الأموي في دمشق في 31 يوليو 2025. وأكدت زوجته سندس عثمان حينها أن زوجها توفي على أيدي عناصر الأمن العام تحت التعذيب، ما أدى إلى تضارب الروايات حول ملابسات وفاته.
The Attorney General in Damascus, Judge Hossam Khattab, announced that the death of the young man, Youssef Mohammed Labad, who was 32 years old, was due to cerebral hypoxia resulting from a seizure.
Judge Khattab clarified, in a statement to the "SANA" agency, that the three-member medical committee formed to investigate the incident concluded that the seizure was a result of the deceased's use of amphetamines and fluoxetine (an antidepressant), in addition to experiencing psychological stress and agitation at the time of death.
The committee also ruled out that the minor visible injuries, such as abrasions and superficial bruises, were the cause of death, noting the absence of serious internal injuries such as brain hemorrhages or bone fractures.
It is worth mentioning that Youssef Labad's death sparked widespread controversy in Syria after his return from Germany and his arrest by elements of the security forces at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus on July 31, 2025. His wife, Sundus Othman, confirmed at the time that her husband died at the hands of security personnel under torture, leading to conflicting accounts regarding the circumstances of his death.
